Cream cakes, chocolate, fish and chips, pizza, burgers, bread, sweets, sugar, lard, fried everything, etc etc Just eat, eat, eat, sit and watch tv, no exercise, you'll soon start packing the lb's on

Just keep the body you have and stay healthy. Clogging your arteries and lining up heart disease later in life just shouldn't be an option. Plus some people can't put weight on regardless of what they eat.

Best thing to do is start an exercise regime at the gym together with healthy supplements, that way your physique will increase without fat.
Be careful though as it can become addictive.

It must be one of the largest internet search subjects going, up there with porn

When trying to gain weight, I suggest working out three times a week. You need to lift hard and then recover for the next workout. Focus on the big exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bent-over rows, chin-ups, bench press, & military press. These are the exercises that will turn those extra calories into muscle.
Choose foods that are nutrient dense and energy dense whenever possible.

What's your profile ? Age, sex, distribution of body fat ? General state of health ? Has your weight changed recently ? Are you otherwise healthy ? Do you feel well ? All these factors are important before deciding you are unhealthy or " normally skinny ".
Body Mass Index ( BMI = weight in kilograms / height in metres squared ) gives an approximate guide, but there are exceptions :
    < 18.5 underweight
    18.5 - 25 desirable weight
    25 - 30 overweight
    30 - 40 obese
    >40 extreme / morbid obesity

Vitamins are not the answer ! A balanced diet and regular exercise is the way to achieve desirable weight, whether the initial problem is malnourishment or obesity. That may be easier said than done, depending on circumstances. Obesity is the main problem in the UK - although malnourishment may be a factor in hospital inpatients and certain illnesses. Both malnourishment and obesity are problems in the Philippines, where around 4 million children are malnourished, and 2 million over-nourished or obese.
With so little information to go on, a forum such as this can't really help you further .

Best to visit your GP as they can give you a lot of NHS support. I agree with Doc Alan too. Check with Boots as well for food supplement. It's also in our genes. You might be skinny but you are heathy...

I am naturally thin too, and thank goodness for that.

Unless you are ill in some way, be grateful you're not one of the millions fighting (well some are) obesity.

Most of the Filipino's I chat to or know seem to be obsessed with Vitamins I've never taken a vitamin tablet in my life and I'm in the best shape i've been in my adult life, inspite of smoking

I exercise regularly, but more importantly I am very careful about what I eat. Lots of real meat or fish (nothing processed) and not too much red meat. Lots of green vegetables, onions, garlic, capsicums, chillies aand lots of salad veg.

I like Filipino food, but after a few weeks there, I really miss proper healthy food. I personally find most Filipino food too salty, too sweet, too fatty and lacking a substantial quantity of green/fibrous veg. For a tourist who isn't going to cook when they are on holiday, the only alternative is fast junk food, and that's probably worse.

I'm quite suprised at the lack of veg in Filipino cooking because when I walk around the markets there a lots of veg stalls selling a good variety of veg. However, it never seems to end up in my meals

My point is, if Filipino's ate a proper balance of meat and veg they would get all the vitamins they need from their food, I don't even think it's down to a lack of money, veg is cheap, it's down to choice and a love of fatty, salty and sweet junk food

Need plenty of vitamin C if you smoke...so I'm told.

I take cod liver oil for my joints, as I eat very little oily fish, and starting to get a bit old now.

People with naturally dark skin need to make sure they're getting plenty of vitamin D in their diet when living in our rubbish climate...so I'm told.

The skin doesn't permit as much ultra-violet through, which affects the ability of the body to absorb and synthesise this vitamin. Something like that anyway.

Maybe the Doc can advise, or correct this urban myth ?

agree with you. That's what my husband said too. He only eat a bit of lechon & more of fruits. He just tasted some of our fatty foods lols. When I arrived in England, I was shocked that veges & fruits are inexpensive & packed so very neatly. Well, health & safety. In the Phils, maybe because mostly american advertisement is always everywhere & the the government doesn't advertise a lot the importance of good nutrition although we have it from school but it's just that burger is so powerful. In short, it's up to the parents to train the kids about the benifits of veges. We are crazy over vitamins that's true. Since we are kids, doctors always prescribed vit c & iron although the other alternative is really from the veges, fruits, etc....Me? I'm into veges & it opened my eyes when I arrive here. I totally understand my english husand now. But, I am petite but high in cholesterol. It's in my genes. I got it from my dad. I am glad that in England u can buy milk, butter, etc that is low in fats....In the Phils, it's hard to find one. If u can find one (important), it's bl@@dy expensive.

I did manage to fix the electronic bits in my (broken) Xbox steering wheel this afternoon, not that that has anything to do with this thread, but I just relied on intelligence and logic, rather than my zero knowledge of such things.

Anyway, just wanted to tell someone, because I was quite pleased with myself.

I might be old with creaky joints, but I can still fix most things.

Eat lots of Humba,i know a pinay who packed on the pounds by gorging on Humba

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

Correct I'm unable to give any specific advice, not having been given basic information
However, subsequent posts have raised a few points :-
Vitamin D - needed for calcium absorption - is obtained through the diet, and also produced in the skin with sun exposure. Melanin pigment does reduce the skin's ability to make this vitamin. Lack of it can lead to rickets or - especially in older women - fractures. It's also possible to overdose on this vitamin ( and others ).
Lack of vitamin C may occur if the diet is faulty, and scurvy may result. Too often a filipino child's diet is low in fruits and vegetables which contributes to under- nourishment. However, the numbers of under-nourished children is declining, and obese children increasing ( both in Philippines and UK ), because of consumption of convenience and junk foods high in salt, sugar, and fat, together with a sedentary lifestyle.
Lack of B vitamins causes a variety of illnesses such as beriberi, but an excess is also harmful.
Vitamin A deficiency can cause blindness ( xerophthalmia ) in the tropics.
Folic acid deficiency can cause a type of anemia, and spina bifida ( in the foetus ) so supplements are given in pregnancy.

It's impossible to generalise, but in the absence of * illness, * pregnancy, or * poverty; * a "target" BMI of 18.5 - 25, * waist circumference < 90 - 94 cm ( men ) and < 80 cm ( women ) ( * no central obesity ), then a balanced diet with exercise is all that is needed . If anyone wishes to " body build " by whatever means, they should remember the risks of obesity in the future if they stop exercising. Vitamin supplements ( or steroids ) are not advised for this purpose
