Spouse Settlement Visa
Lodged April 28th
Been apart for almost 6 months now. It's good that I managed to get my 5 year old daughter a British passport. She's been missing daddy and we really want to join him in the UK soon...

to the filipino/uk forum.
... six months IS a long time for a husband and wife to be parted. And I can empathise with your feelings of frustration at the apparent delay. But, there are, unfortunately, a surprising number of couples in the same situation as yourselves. Whilst you may have heard or read about some receiving their visas within a matter of days, the reality is, that many more find themselves waiting several weeks - which, even then, is a vast improvement to what it was ... say, a year or two ago ... when anything up to 3 months was considered normal - especially with applications for Settlement.
Recent tightening-up of Immigration Rules by the UK Government - combined with an ever-increasing volume of visa requests - has resulted in Consular staff undergoing a short period re-training during May ... leading, in turn, to an inevitable backlog of work ... at a time when the Embassy is usually at its busiest. However, having already obtained a British Passport for your child WILL, undoubtedly, simplify matters. So, goodluck!

Hi Arthur, thanks. I really hope that my child's citizenship would help... I just worried now because school here in the Philippines will start next month so i'm not sure if I still need to enroll her. Another thing is my husband is unemployed but we never ever claim for benefit. We do have money and properties all over so hopefully it will suffice the requirements.

Update! Consulate called 7:55 am! I was unprepared because the call woke me up. Now I'm really nervous. I overstayed in the UK for 3 years before I went back home to Manila with my husband and daughter. Its been 4 years since then. He asked me why I overstayed and if I intend to work if I get my visa. I really do hope that it will be granted. Keeping my fingers crossed. It's just so hard to be away from each other especially if you have a child missing her dad so much!

A decision on your Visa application reference number: 000000000000 has been made by the British Embassy.
Your application has been received at the UK Visa Application Centre and is ready for collection.

We submitted our application on April 12, then of course you had Holy Week, then of course they are doing 3 weeks of consular training.
However we heard today (20th May) "Your visa will be despatched shortly. Passports can normally be collected from the Visa Application Centre after 3 days."

2 more sleepless nights before I can lay my hands on that envelope containing the decision. If I only knew I would receive that text on a Friday, I would have opted to have my documents couriered....
