    Married Couple's Allowance

    Hi all,

I want to claim a married couple's allowance but I am afraid this would affect my partner's future ILR visa application? (as she is not entitled to access public funds) Or is this fine? I searched about it and didn't find the answer so I am hoping someone here could help me.

    I have read about it as http:// www. direct.gov .uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits /Taxes/BeginnersGuideToTax/IncomeTax/Taxallowancesandreliefs/DG_078312

Hoping for any information. Thank you.

    married couples allowance

i am a bit confused about the other members query because i thought that there is no married couples allowance now unless you where born many years ago.

i called my local inland revenue office today and asked them and they said i am correct that it is slowly being fazed out and is only available top the people born before ,,,,sorry i cant remember the date they said now..

BUT when you read about the tax allowances it is not clear and i also thought that it was available.

is the tax office wrong ???????????

John, don't get excited or too hopeful

No HMRC is not wrong, there is an still age-related Married Couple's Allowance ... but it only applies if one spouse was born before 6 April 1935.
Also, because it is an allowance, it is an amount that is taken off your tax bill - so it only applies if you actually pay tax.

Now, it is clear to me. Yeah, seems like it doesn't apply to me at all. I missed to consider the "born before 6 April 1935".

Thank you so much for the help everyone. Very much appreciated.
