Know what you mean about the french visa, its a total nightmare. Even more so for us that live in the heart of the country!!! The spainish one I believe is easier as there is a consolute office in mancester. I'm a little sketchy as its a while since I look into it but its just a matter of phoning up to book your appointment. When you go have proff of your flight, hotel staying etc, maybe even a bank statement to show your not going to be a drain on their resources and utility bill to prove your uk address. Of course you'll need the wife and her passport as well!

From what I read off the embassy website, just rock up at the consol office, you can go in with her, thay take the passport and post it back to you in 2-3 weeks I believe. It sounded so much easier than the french one to me but of course go onto the spainish embassy website and have a look. The dutch embassy as well is supposed to pretty easy.

All you have to do is enter into the country of issue and then you can travel to other countries. So fly into spain and finish your trip with a long weekend in paris. That was what i was going to do with my missus.

yep thats what i read but the further you dig the more answers you get, if she is your wife then you dont need to show them any documents , insurance , hotel booking, travel booking and so on , then the next says you do, it seems i cant get the visa first then book a cheap holiday, seems i book the holiday then pray i get the visa, seems daft to me

Yeah seems a backwards way of doing it, to book your holiday then hope that you get the visa. Personally I'd take all the paper work anyway just incase.

Steve, unless the regulations have changed a lot, DO NOT use an agency. They cannot help you. A Philippine passport holder MUST apply in person. Period.

I know it was quite long ago, but we booked our appointment on the website for French Consulate. I recall about
    3 weeks waiting time.

We found the French application system pretty straight forward. You fill in the dets online, and you get an appointment time.

You turn up at alloted time, 30-45mins later all done, then you return in 2 weeks to collect your visa (or get it posted to you).

Granted we live near London, so for us no problems with travelling, time off etc etc.

Why not go to Morocco ?
    No visa required

RyanAir doing some flights in April for under £80 return

Hi Steve, if you'd consider Germany instead of France or Spain you can get the Schengen visa by post. The only cost is the registered post to the German embassy and the return of the docs back to you.

You need the address of where you are planning to stay but that is about it. You could spend a day or so in Germany and then travel to France if you wanted.

From East Mids airport you could fly to Berlin, Cologne or Munich, or for more destinations (closer to the French border) you could travel a little further and fly from Birmingham.

Bugger that, Steve! Try calling 0161~236~1233 ... which is a landline telephone number I came across for the Spanish Consulate in Manchester.

Slightly off topic - I loath these contribute to their profits chargeable numbers and always check them out though http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php to try and obtain an equivalent geographical number - VFS Comes up with 020 7811 3976

*Likewise! Which is why I suggested the geographical number above ... however, presumably 020 7811 3976 is also a non-premium rate landline - albeit for VFS?
