Last year my friend in Phil went to a lot of trouble and expense to fly to Manila to apply for a visiter's visa and a friend told her she would need at least £8,000 shown on her bank statement and the same amount on mine to persuade V.F.S to grant the visa, can anybody help?

there is no set limit you need, what your friend or you need (if your supporting her visa app) is at least enough to fund the trip (to pay for air tickets, travel insurance, accommodation , food , etc (if your not supplying it))

... it's NOT VFS that grant/refuse a visa ... it is the British [or other] Consulate in an applicant's own country.

NO exact amount inside the bank for visitors visa.,she just have to show a compelling reason why she would return to the Philippines after visiting the UK like owned property business or a good job.
