UPDATE 11) Typhoon "Pepeng (Parma)" intensified further on Thursday afternoon, prompting the government to place eight provinces and two islands under storm alert levels.
Under Public Storm Signal No. 1 are Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Quezon, Aurora, Sorsogon, Burias Island and Polillo Island in Luzon; and Northern Samar in the Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11 p.m. advisory.

Just read this also...."The Philippines placed soldiers and civilian emergency teams on the main island of Luzon on alert as an even more powerful super typhoon moved closer. Typhoon Parma was expected to make landfall near northeastern Quirino and Isabela provinces on Luzon by Saturday unless it changed direction"..Hope it just blows itself out before then..

Yeah, my son phoned me earlier tonight to ask if Myrna's family were ok [which they ARE as they all live in Mindanao]; he'd heard somewhere that last weekend's events were the result of a Tsunami caused by "earthquake" tremors on the seabed. Fortuitously, those were sufficiently far offshore to avert full scale destruction of epic proportions ... on a par with the 2004 events in the Indian Ocean.

We have relatives in Quezon province though that are busy tying everything down..Not so much rain expected but wind might get a bit lively..
A bit windy even here in Bohol...Might get the kite out.

Actualy what your son mentioned I think he got it a little bit mixed up as nearly in the same time as typhoon Ketsana hit Luzon, Samoan islands were hit by the earthquake and resulting tsunami as well as Indonesia recently.
Looks like mother nature is spilling her anger over Asia now...Jiri & Maricel
