'Ondoy' victims to get free calls to OFW kin
The families of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who have been affected by tropical storm “Ondoy" will be given free texts and calls to their loved ones abroad to update them of their situation in the Philippines, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said.
Since Saturday, GMANews.TV has been receiving phone calls from OFWs inquiring about rescue efforts being undertaken to save their relatives.
But OWWA, through its 24/7 Operations Center, said that it will now serve as a “Libreng Tawag (Free Call) communication bridge" for those who wish to communicate with their husbands, parents, or relatives working abroad, via telephone calls or SMS.
The agency said these family members can send text messages, together with the destination numbers, to 0917TXTOWWA (09178986992). OWWA will then pass on the message to their loved ones abroad.
For those who wish to avail of the service, they may call up the Operations Center at:

Typhoon Ketsana (local name Ondoy) was one of the worst natural disasters to hit the Metro Manila area and the nearby regions of NCR (National Capital Region) in recent times, also devastating the areas of Markina, Laguna and Rizal. Men, women, children, animals, including properties throughout the affected areas suffered greatly in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Ketsana (local name Ondoy), and their difficulties are still on going today! We must all continue to come together to help the survivors fully recover from this deadly natural disaster.
Casualties included men, women, children, and even animals, property damage is already estimated to be at least $10 billion throughout the affected areas. While rescuers are still trying to save as many lives as they can, survivors will definitely need food, clean drinking water, clothing, and medical attention. Now, more than ever, we must all come together to help save as many as we can from this catastrophe.
Help rebuild lives and DONATE NOW.
Share what we have.

Weezie23, you posted links to a fund raising website to help the many people affected by this terrible tragedy but I'm not prepared to approve those links as that website is not secure. This means that anyone making a credit card donation on that website could be exposed to credit card fraud, as any credit card numbers entered and sent on the website are not encrypted and can be intercepted.
The Philippine Embassy have more information on how to donate: http://philembassy-uk.org/news_advisory.html#page11
and the NDCC website: http://ndcc.gov.ph/home/
Or theres Red Cross website Philippines: http://www.redcross.org.ph/Site/PNRC/wtd.aspx It looks like they accept Credit Card donations, but always check its secure.
Thank you for you understanding in this matter.
