Our philippine president doesn't quit on pushing Cha-cha. She wants to amend the constitution so she can stay in power or to bail herself out and her acomplices in facing the court for all the corruption cases filed against her in the duration of her term. Cha-cha meant nothing but feeding more the power-hungry politicians and giving them immunity from being punished for the injustices they comitted during their term. Others may disagree but that's just my opinion and how i see it.

Sorry Sophie but I disagree 100%. Gloria has already announced she will not seek a further term. Cha-Cha is an essential change to enable the modernisation and progression of the country. Only those with a vested interest in maintaining the status quo oppose it, like the RC church, as it threatens their power base and political influence. Don't believe all the negative publicity put about in the corrupt media by corrupt politicians as that is simply evidence of their fears if this goes through. Together with the pressure being applied by the G20 on reforming the banking system, which will flush out many corrupt deals, this is the best thing to happen for years and needs the support of everyone. Get behind it. It is good for everyone, not least us ex pats.

[QUOTE=David House;127405]Sorry Sophie but I disagree 100%. Gloria has already announced she will not seek a further term.

I hope she'll stick to her word this time coz she sure said same familiar phrase before in her speech "i'm not running for president next election" but she did, and she was even accused of cheating to win her 2nd term of presidency (although that one has never been really proven 100% beyond reasonable doubt).

Cha-Cha is an essential change to enable the modernisation and progression of the country.

If this is what really Cha-cha is about, then good for the philippines. I will be glad to witness this one unfold.
But i will have to wait and see....... until then, i stand on thesame ground
