Does anybody know the cost of Petrol per Litre in the Phils pls?
We are thinking of renting a car in Gagayan de Oro
Would my standard UK driving License permit me please??

I hired in Manila last month and the fuel was around 32 pesos per litre or aound 146 pesos per gallon if you prefer gallons. With the peso rate around 70that means just over £2 per gallon. Your Uk liscence should be fine, they will probably want to retain your liscence or passport or a deposit of around 10000 pesos.

All i know if you rent a car,there is driver to be with you,they wont let you bring the car all by yourself,but if that is your wife friend,(maybe they will let you),how ever still they wont trust you to use thier car by you only, YES 32 PER LITER,and yes you are allowed to drive with your british license,but just to remind our driver seat was on left side

You can SELF drive in Manila, cannot speak for any other area, never tried. I have always been with my honey so I cannot comment on if they would allow you without any Filipino/a present.

it's 32 pesos per liter at the moment, but if u're going to rent a car I think it is already included on the agreed payment though sometimes it still depends with the owner of the car or with u if u only want the car/driver hire..

with regards to u UK driving license permit, I am sure u can use it there but just a little reminder, roads in my country is really really mad..
also u have to drive on the right side of the road, and its a left hand drive..

When we were in PI, me & my husband hired a Nissan SUV (spacious with 7-10capacity, airconditioned with tinted windows) for PhP3000/day with a professional driver from 7am til 12midnight but we shouldered the petrol costs which was less than PhP50/litre.

Destinations:
QC-Manila-Bulacan-Makati-Bikol-Tagaytay etc...

Guess it was pretty reasonable. The driver was also our photographer/tour guide/security guard/friend lol - oh he was so funny (so really a good bargain).


My suggestion is:
If your lady love or anyone from her family who can find a Professional driver who has Public Van/SUV then hire him... With this, you will be able to save lots of hassles in parking, finding places to go etc. He could drop you off then pick you up or he will wait til your done...

Lol, also a plus factor if he is funny hehehe...


Downsides of you driving in the PI (esp in busy & bigger places/cities)
Wrong handside drive
Traffic is not so good
Crazy drivers hehehe
Parking
Bad roads: some with No Road signs (lol)

BUT IT CAN BE AN ADVENTURE HEHEHE... Good luck mate!!

Looks like we will take a Taxi, but I suppose that coz it's Holy Week, is double Lol??? even triple
We were quoted 2500 from the Marco Hotel, to the Duka beach, Resort, approx a 2 hour drive one way, which is a bit pricey!!!
I think we will perhaps take the bus lol.
Do loveeeeeeeeee the adventure anyway

I drive in England as my job, i have driven in Spain. I adjusted after a short while there, spanish are crazy drivers though. I asked my g/f about hiring a car there for when i would be over, she said have a break from driving and also the public transport is so easy and cheap. After being there a few days i agree, so easy and cheap to get around and i would not even want to drive there. It just seems so manic and so much traffic.

I agree the roads can be pretty hazardous ... what with all the taxicabs, jeepneys, motor cycles (even pedal powered bikes) seemingly coming at you from all directions ... best take the bus - first making sure it's air-conditioned (especially on long journeys!); it's definitely the least expensive way of getting around.

Aircon and tinted windows are a must in Mindanao, especially if you'll be venturing off the beaten track a bit. With aircon you can keep the windows firmly shut at all times and with the tinted windows, nobody will know there's a whitey onboard.

My wife and I took the bus when we went from CDO to Duka Bay and it does take about 2 hours, but it was an OK journey really and it only cost about P200.

My guess based on Cebu is that you should be paying around 1000 piso for a journey like that depending on the average speed = distance I would pay 500 for a brand new cab for a 1 hour journey which covered the drivers time back to town without a fare

Total kmt about 80@ 2.5 per 300mt around 700 including the starting 30 on the meter but in town a driver could do better with shorter runs so that would be fair drivers rent there cars from 500-900 a day plus the fuel usualy lpg and they have 24 hours to make their money so timing can help get you a deal

If you are on the ground and your honey doesnt seem to be able to help chat with expats who can often speed the process up

If he's just a cousin of co-worker your just a rich whitey to him mate. Having said that, even if he was her cousin I don't think you'de be offered local Filipino rates.

I just asked the wife and she said you can catch the bus for Duka Bay in Puerto, I'm sure your wife will know where that is.

Hi Fritzy,

I's about 34 pesos a liter right now. Your passport will allow you to drive here and your UK license will help. However, I suggest you hire a driver instead of driving yourself. You can get one for about 300 to 500 pesos a day plus meals. I suggest it because if you're not familiar with the roads and markings (if there are any) you can easily get in trouble with the traffic cops. We call them crocoddiles here because when they are hungry (around meal times) they stop anyone for no reason and extort money from you because, no matter what you've done, they keep your license or passport. They literally go out of their way to pull over foreigners and make anything up to get your papers and then you have to offer to pay the fine on the spot without a receipt. Keep plenty of smaller bills handy. They do not make change so, if the fine is 500 pesos and all you have is 1000 then give them the 1000 and get your papers back at all cost. Been there, done that, even got the T-shirt. I've been living here for three and a half years now so be wise and travel safe. Keep your money deep in your pocket and not in a purse or wallet. Have someone keep watch if you go to an ATM and tuck your money away and out of sight quick. Don't give money to the beggars. If they are kids, buy them some food but don't give them money. Most are forced to do it to give money to ther parents who sit home and do nothing. Leftovers from your meal will be greatly appreciated. Safe trip!
