I walked in from the airport a few mins ago and was so happy to see a birthday card from my love.

I switched on the PC and yahoo opened instantly and I saw several offline messages from her. We had spoken before i boarded my plane and she was on her way to her cookery class.

She was in the open so i did not stay long as I am always worried someone will hear her speaking English and think she has money. After talking she went to the bank to withdraw money and apparently someone followed her and has taken her mobile and money.

She went to the cafe opposiite the Cookery School and sounds so frightened and shaken and I cannot reach anyone apart from her aunty who is a long way away. :bigcry: I am so worried about her and feel so helpless! :bigcry: I am going crazy here!

I am so worried about her.

As long as it is only money/mobile and she's alright, that's the main thing. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Maybe it's best if all the guys on here instruct the other half to only go the bank with other people in future, this has happened before.

Exactly! Tell us where she is in Phils. and I am confident that someone on here will be able to offer assistance in whatever way we can.
Ain't that right folks??? Let us look after our own.

Sorry to hear this news mate. May God bless you both.

Thanks Keith, you are so right. I have just heard from her. She went back to the Internet Cafe to try to reach me.

She was on a multi-cab and 1 of a group of 3 guys put a knife into her side and told her to open her bag and not make a sound. Then they took her money and her mobile and got off. Fortunately, they could not see her purse as it was under a t-shirt so she still has my card and I have just transferred some more money. Someone will go to the bank with her tomorrow.

I cannot describe the feeling I felt when I walked in and saw her offline messages. I have not cried in years but I felt so helpless and terrible that I could not protect her. I felt really bad that she was not already here with me. It's a feeling words cannot describe.

K xx Thank you so much Kerry. I thank God that she was not injured. I can replace anything but cannot replace the Queen of my heart.

Pia lives about 45 mins outside of Surigao City proper. I tried to reach her tatay but the phone is not working. Nanay has leant her phone to sis.

I mananged to reach one of my favourite aunties but she was a long way away. She did call another aunty who was on her way to see if Pia was home already.

I know how you're feeling Paimed when you talk about feeling helpless. That has been a constant nagging thought in the back of my mind since I've been home, knowing if something happens there is next to nothing you can do about it! :-(

Glad your lady's ok though mate! :-)

I have nothing constructive to say but knowing how I felt when my daughter was 5,000 miles away and hurting my heart goes out to you and Pia, Piamed. It won't be long before she's in your care.

Your advice is good.

Pia is a very simple person that wears local clothes and does not wear high value items, hence them not taking anything else. She does not even wear her engagement ring when out and turns the wedding band so the simple side is shown.

Thank God she is unhurt!

Thanks Alan

We would love to visit hannah and yourself if possible. Pia is home now. She borrowed her neighbours phone and texted me.

You know, in all of this there are still blessings:

Pia is unhurt physically
I was not there, 'cause both my love and I know what would have happened

Hi Piamed, sorry to hear that but be thankful to God she is unhurt physically.

Thank you so much!

I have just spoken to Pia and it was so hard. I'm heartbroken. I feel such a fool as I have recently posted saying that i feel safe in da Phils and never had any problems before. I have now. I have just read Pete's new thread on saftety in da Phils.

Pia is not going to go to her cookery classes anymore. She will mostly just stay in her Barangay until I arrive. I suggested that she goes to spend time with her aunty in Butuan but i think she is worried about her VISA documents being sent back to her and her not being there to receive them. Of course, she also does not have the mobile that she submitted to the Embassy along with her application. :NoNo:

It's been a terrible few days: ferry disaster, other flooding & sinkings, the murder of the Swedish gentlemen and his family, the murder of this British man also. I was talking to Pia about them before I boarded my plane.

Can you believe that Pia has spoken to her sis who is in manila seeing her husband off as he goes to japan for 3 years in 1 week? She and her husband were with the kids and robbed of cash outside the training office at almost exactly the same time as Pia.

A terrible few days! Absolutely terrible!

Sorry to hear about this :NoNo: .... glad she is ok. :)

Reminder, us guys should always think about where our lady is before we make call on mobile. Thanks, that is a really valid point Tomm. I always worry about that.

Can you believe my mother has just returned my call? She is obviously upset about waht happened to Pia and has just told me that she just found out that th son of one of the ladies she was supposed to go on holiday with a few weeks ago was murdered in the Philippines a few days ago.

He had married a filipina with 3 children and was having problems getting her and her children to the UK so he went there to help.

She does not know the full details but says he was early 40s. Hmmn!

My girlfriend was telling me that the increasing prices of food is making people more desperate, not that it should be any excuse to rob people.
Her sister had her bag snatched in the market not long ago. Like Alan said, hopefully we can help each other when needed, I know I worry about my girlfriend picking up her 'extra'.

hi, sorry to hear your loveone in the Phils experienced that kind of thing:NoNo:.
The last time I went home to Phils my sisters a bit annoyed on me that I am Balikbayan but I look just plain ( no jewelries, nice phone and not wearing signature clothes). As you know some Balikbayan are very showy what they have:doh. Me, I am avoiding things like holdup though of course accident happen but if you can avoid it why not by going out just plain.

How are you feeling now? Glad to know that she was physically safe after the ordeal she had gone through. Thanks be to God. I wish that both of you especially Pia are slowly picking up stable emotion and will get back to the normal ways of living. Your steadfast love and her family is surely helping the Queen of your heart in a great way to get well and feel much better on the days to come. My prayers goes out to you and Pia.

Actually, I need to get in the habit of not taking my watch and pendant when I travel to countries with such poverty. The only place where I felt unsafe to the extent that I even changed my shoes was Brazil.

I'm ok and pia is surround by her loving family. Some of them travelled to her place first thing this morning to make sure she is ok when the heard the news. She has a really great family.

You know as nanay just reminded me it was about this time last year when Pia had to move into a new boarding house. We decided that she should stay in the city proper as she was taking extra classes. This meant she was at school 7 days a week and would have to travel back to her Barangay very late.

She moved into a one bed apartment. ! night while we were chatting some local boys with their faces hidden by scarves tried to break into her place. They even tied wire around the exit door to prevent her escaping.

Pia moved out immediately and went to another one where she lived with her brothers until late last year when she moved back home.

I will be so happy when she is here. But thank God for protecting her always.

Hi Piamed,

I really feel for you and Pia. Reading your post leaves a sense of fear and shame in me. It's been a long time since the last time I visited PI and hearing this things had given me stirred emotions.
That brit guy that has been shot, the swedish guy, members with their fiance/wives being mugged and robbed. I would like to give you and Pia a more comforting words but in this very moment I just feel helpless in front of this kind of emotions.

Hope you can be together soon.

Hi Peanutz. Thank you for your comments. Please dont feel too much fear. These things happen the world over. There is nothing to be ashamed about. that is life on this planet.

Anyone who has ever been to Nigeria for example or Brazil or Columbia knows of circumstances much worse than in da Phils. It is a shame wherever it occurs though.

The Philippines is an amazing country that has provided so many on here with their asawas, bfs and gfs. It has also provided many of the most sought after employees across more countries than any other.

God is good. Pia has new phone which she is happy with and she is enjoying a good day with nanay and her two younger brothers. She sounds much happier, so I am happy too. :)

I'm delighted to know that Pia sounds much happier now and so are you. It's nice to see that she's getting better. My mother is from Surigao City. My aunt and one of my uncles lives in Kinabutan Rizal while the rest of my mother's relatives live at Burgos and Navarro Streets. Some near Mabua beach and other places in Surigao City. Have you been to Siargao? Does she speak Surigaonon? I speak a little language of my mother and I would love to talk to Pia given the chance. :)

Take care and I hope you both have some good news very very soonThanks AndyPaul. Pia was really touched by the support she has had. Members of her family arrived from really remote places before 5am this morning, having heard what happened to her. She read so many of the messages here ad asked me to thank everyone for caring and the words of encouragement.

Pia is a bit nervous at the moment but going out with her family today helped and she really enjoyed being with them. I hope that in a day or 2 she will be going out normally. It was an awful experience and now I know the full details I am even more proud about how she handled the situation.

We are really praying for her visa to come through soon.

Just thought I would update you all.

Pia was not on her way from the bank as I originally thought when i first saw her offline messages. She had been to the bank much earlier in the day. We had also spoken briefly on the phone when she at her aunty's place.

She was on her way from her aunty's place and was riding a multicab to her cookery class when the robbery occured. The multicab was originally full but at some point it reduced to a lady that was sitting at the front near the driver, 3 guys and Pia.

One of the guys was leaning forward, shielding what happened from the view of the lady and driver. Another pressed an ice-pick to Pia's tummy and told her to open her bag and not make a sound. He then took her money. He then looked at her threateningly until she handed the phone to him. Pia had tried to shield it from him.

He then looked in the bag and only saw her cooking folder and a T-shirt. Fortunately, he did not see the ipod, and wallet with her cards and ID.

Anyway, I am thankful she was unharmed. I have asked Pia to see if she can hire a car and driver to drive her home from class as her family and I are worried about her travelling so far home each night but as I think andypaul said earlier, I dont want her to feel like a prisoner.

Hiring a car to me is a good idea. Staying indoors or just close to home all the time when she is about to leave may not be so good. Does she have a family member or friend with a car or motorbike who can take her for a fee?

Then she is far safer and your helping the family.

One of my wifes cousin was having problems paying the montly payment on his scooter when we were over but needed it for work. So we asked him to courier people about when we had parties and get the ice cream and other items when we ran out.

One of my wifes cousin was having problems paying the montly payment on his scooter when we were over but needed it for work. So we asked him to courier people about when we had parties and get the ice cream and other items when we ran out.Hi andypaul, 2 of her extended in-laws have tricycles. I'd even fogotten about them.

Pia also told me that a local company has just started offering a car with driver service in the city; she will investigate that tomorrow.

Cheers mate!

It's exactly 1 week to the day that Pia was robbed and the first day she has traveled alone on a multi-cab since and I have just called her after receiving her text. She has just seen one of the guys that robbed her and he was looking a her.

She ran to the police for safety and who acted quickly and set up road blocks and check-points. The robber got onto a multi-cab and went to the terminal. An officer escorted Pia there and they searched for him. Witnesses says he was in a rush and boarded a bus to Davao. The police suspect he used that to get away and probably disembarked shortly afterwards. The police also think he may have seen Pia a couple of times since last week and is trying to follow her movements.

Apparently, one of the Barangay treasurers was targeted the seem way recently. Pia's family are wonderful and responded immediately rallying around her and taking her home. I hope for their sakes they don't find the robber before the police do. The police have given Pia their mobile number and have told her to text whenever she is on her way into town.

Obviously, Pia is frightened again :NoNo: and I am wondering now what to do.
