Sounds good. Is that for both landline and mobile? We're paying 8p/9p at the moment.

Is Skype any better than Yahoo or MSN? Is it necessary to buy a Skype handset to get good quality?

Skype is ok quality and from when we used to use it frequently performed more realiably than yahoo and msn with regards to sound.

Any decent handset will be ok, i bought some cheap usb ones which looked like normal handsets and they worked a treat. My Wife when back in phill orignally bought a cheap headset for a few hundred pesos which worked ok, i think it worked using the mic and speaker socket on the laptop.

I would think the bandwith you have avaiable both sides of the call and processing power of the pc, helps the quality more than having the most super dooper handset.

And msn messenger, btcommunicator, yahoo messenger, icqchat, the list goes on, theres many to choose from. as andypaul states, its the quality of the connection that counts, not the actual device used. Elsa and I used to talk through Yahoo messenger using only my cheapo webcam with built in microphone. I use Skype sometimes, and still use the webcam microphone.

2 empty tins, and 12,000 miles of string should work very cheaply for calls style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif

I did try googling for "speed of sound on a string" but didn't get very far...

personally I find chikka.com to be the most useful since we don't both need to be sat at a PC.

Hi Ivor,

the price is for mobile phone and i think landline is either the same or it is 6p a min

I tried skype once with Rhea but she could not make out what i was saying but with the skype phone it would probably be fine but if i remember it right it was 10p per min.

Hi Tim I think the most cheapest way to phone phils. is if you have a internatioanl phonecards, i usually use a card called bonus which is 3 for £10. I'm phoning mobile phone so the 1 card has 56 minutes but its more minutes if you are only using landline. I hope this will help you. regards

Have I got my sums right? That's 168 minutes for 10 quid? Which is just under 6p a minute... seems the best so far!

Hi everyone,
I came across this forum question for the cheapest calls to the philippines and i was amazed how much you all pay to ring the philippines. I also use an international calling card which i buy online from a company called U2call. This site has many calling cards, but the best value card is called Dial&Chat. It gives you two numbers to call, a local 0845 number or a 0808 freephone number. To call a mobile phone in the philippines using the local rate number costs just 3.33p per minute and to call using the freephone number is still only 4.76p per minute. I use the freephone number, so the is no nasty phonebills coming in. To call a landline in the philippines costs 2.44p per minute using the local rate number and 3.85p per minute using the freephone number. Again this international calling card is from Dial&Chat through the company called U2call. I will not put the link in this post as i am not sure if you are allowed too as i have only just joined this forum, but if you go to google or yahoo and put in u2call you will find their website. You need to registrar your details, but it is very sesure, it is Barclays who does all the billing. You can pay using any credit or british debit card. I have used the company for 5 months now and i have never had any problems with them. I sound like their salesman, really i am not. I hope this is useful to you all, and will help you all save a bit more money when calling the philippines in the future.
