Hello,

I will be travelling from Manila to London via Guangzhou China soon and I cannot find a clear explanation about 24 hour visa free Transit.
I would like to know if my Filipina wife will be able to leave the airport premises and go to nearby hotel.

What I found online is this: "Foreigners who have confirmed onward tickets and seats on international flights and directly transit through China and stay for no more than 24 hours within the airport boundaries do not need to apply for a transit visa. However, anyone desiring to go beyond the airport boundaries temporarily should obtain permission from the immigration authorities at the airport."
So I understand that we need to speak to immigration authorizes at the airport and get a stamp to be able to leave the airport and go to a hotel.
But there are also some websites that say that she can't go beyond the airport, so I am confused.

Could you please help me? Did you ever had a long transit in China airport?

Regards,
Lucas

I haven't had a lengthy stopover at Guangzhou but I did notice the employees to be a nonchalant bunch.

If you can't get an answer on here, go onto the Trip Advisor forum for China and they should be able to tell you for sure. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

It looks like a nice place to visit. But, to be honest, once you see one big Chinese city, you have seen them all. I am always impressed by the skyscraper culture here, it's just a shame that it comes at the expense of removing all historic buildings. Shanghai is a good example of that. I am in a small town to the west of Dalian right now that has a lot of history over the last 100-150 years and you can still see it.

Good luck with the visa. Like Jamie said, some staff can be a bit dismissive, but I am sure it is only because English is not easy for them. But ask nicely and I'm sure someone will try and help you.
