View Full Version : Painting.........

I'm painting almost every day .........

I don't mind doing it actually as I find it relaxing.

Paint isn't so expensive here neither are brushes, rollers and sandpaper.
Some of the paint isn't what I'd call a good coverer, but eventually I can get a decent end-result.

In my 'cubby-hole' under the stairs I found loads of paint. Some unopened.
This was left behind by my 'trusted' painters. BAH !!!!

Since they left we have discovered that they actually knew very little about painting.

They seem not to have rubbed down or prepared the surfaces to be painted. They seem not to have used any primer, or any undercoat. Just splashed on the top coat.

Hence the reason why I'm painting.
Haven't needed to buy any extra paint only brushes rollers thinners and other stuff.

I paid P2000 for 6 days work which I'm having to do again as the work they did was completely useless with paint peeling away :cwm23:

Another lesson learned.....

If you want a job doing do well do it yourself (if you can) despite the time and effort it will take.

On the subject on painting walls, I've also noticed my painters didn't use the concrete neutraliser I bought.
Looks like more trouble ahead....hehehe

I'm still painting.........:Cuckoo:

I'll finish the Kitchen tomorrow....hopefully, then I will move on to the 'dirty kitchen'...

I'm very confident my wife will find a number of other projects.
I know she wants to replace all the door handles in the house and to replace all the windows with PVC double glazed units from Wilcon.

Soon I'm hoping to create a whole new en-suite shower room and CR before moving on to fixing up the 2nd floor guest room.
Finally we still need to finalise a large area up on the 3rd floor.

Here's hoping I can convince her that a holiday, a fishing trip and Christmas holiday will come before I work myself to death :omg:

The cost of labour here is very low. At first glance it might seem crazy to be working hard in this climate. Why not just pay someone to do it ?

It's like this.... I really don't mind painting and it can be relaxing. It's nice when you can take time do a decent job and enjoy the difference such jobs make.

On the other hand, I've learnt from experience that a 'good' job is not always what you get from someone whose just in it for money.
I want to take care in proper preparation of the surfaces I'm painting. For want of a better phrase, I want it done right. I want it sanded smooth after each coat. I want primer, undercoat and 2-3 coats of topcoat. I want all the tools and equipment cleaned, I want all spills and splashes removed immediately. I don't want any 'overpainting' on adjacent surfaces or on light switches and sockets etc.

Seems I want the impossible so I do it myself.

I'll turn my hand to most things that I know I can do.

The builders I employed to remodel the house did a fair job for a fair price. But, in hindsight, their attention to smaller detail was lacking.

To be honest I've never been able to find any Hammerite paint anywhere here at all.

I've asked so many times but nobody has any idea about that.

Ive not seen Hammerite here but that doesn't mean you cant get good metal paint..
I use epoxy red primer and epoxy gloss or enamel as they call it here..Cant remember brand name but I can check if you like.
To test it you can paint it on a plastic bag..Lets say three coats and let it cure... Scrumple up the bag tight and reopen... Paint does not flake or peel at all.
For rusty metal you can buy rust converter pretty cheaply...Apply 24 hours before primer..
Here I am talking about bloody paint again!!!! Hate the stuff!

I always said to my Mrs that before we go live in the R.P, I would throw all my brushes ceremoniously in the Thames...Never to pick up another..
Wish I hadnt done it now...Damned good brushes those...Cant find ANYTHING here like them..
Now I`m cutting in rubbish paint with dodgy Chinese imports, swearing like a grumpy old trooper sweating his balls off..
You couldn't make this shyte up for a film script.

I see what you mean now....I had no idea!

A glory hole is visible in the wall (left) in this lavatory.

A glory hole (also spelled gloryhole and glory-hole) is a hole in a wall, or other partition, often between public lavatory (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_toilet) stalls or adult video arcade (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adult_video_arcade) booths, for people to engage in sexual activity (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_activity) or observe the person in the next cubicle while one or both parties masturbate (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masturbate).[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glory_hole_(sexual_slang)#cite_note-Gay_Ethics:_Controversies_in_O-1) In addition to the penis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_penis), fingers, clitoris, breast, or the tongue may be inserted into the hole.
Glory holes are sometimes the topic of erotic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erotic) literature, and pornographic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography) films have been devoted to the uses of glory holes.[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glory_hole_(sexual_slang)#cite_note-One-Handed_Histories-2)
