So, :cwm24: ... what do you fear most about getting older?

:olddude: ... there isn't a lot of point in it worrying me ... :anerikke: ... I'm already there!

I'm already over 60 but still think I'm 25
I know my wife has many friends and family close who'll take care of her whatever so nothing for me to worry about.

Thinking about getting a new fridge that keeps my beer ice cool for 12 hours in a brownout, so that's another big concern solved

It's everyone else who's worrying....as they're the ones who are going to have to pay all my debts. :icon_lol:

This was an interesting survey, in which unsurprisingly Alzheimer’s, death of family / friends, and cancer were frequently chosen among different age groups as the biggest fears about growing older.

One might criticise the possible answers ( Alzheimer’s is only one form of dementia and there are ways to reduce the chances of getting it ; there are many different types of cancer, each with different outlooks ; heart disease may be successfully treated , as may depression ; arthritis, weight, loneliness, and money worries vary in severity ). Perhaps the relative importance of each might change if those taking part in the survey knew more about, and understood better, each of the choices given.

Not many members have answered Arthur’s question " What do YOU fear most about growing older ? ". Maybe you have no fears, or don’t wish to dwell on the topic. Personally I would put " Death of family and friends " as my top worry – although ultimately it’s inevitable, I hate the thought of them suffering.

Without advertising on the Forum, I am impressed at the advice given by an ex-Glasgow colleague in his book entitled " Sod 70 ! – The Guide to Living Well ", in which he basically says ageing is not a problem, and don’t worry :xxgrinning--00xx3: ! It should be read BEFORE reaching 70 , in my opinion.

I try NOT to worry about becoming ill. Working as a health professional is a " double-edged sword " – on the one hand I know all the lifestyle choices for wellbeing ( more than just being healthy ); on the other hand I may know too much about POSSIBLE signs and symptoms of illness :doh. I do try to keep fit, focus on the present, and be positive – which requires real effort ! An interest in others, and renewing " old " hobbies, or developing new ones, help keep the mind active.

Good health and happiness to ALL members  !

I must admit, I never 'worry' but I do think long term about most things so that I always have something to look forward to and I think that's what keeps me moving forward in life! :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Fear of getting older............the possibility of going to a party and looking like David Brent from The Office doing "that dance".
Plus the old saying "never trust a fart over 50" :yikes:

As I am now 71 and alone apart from my pet friend "Charlie":animal-smiley-037:
I agree death of family having lost 3 siblings in 3 years!
And for me getting lonely, but being here helps as does meeting people when walking Charlie.

That's the only thing about having to be able to drop everything to make trips to the Phils Mick.

I'd love to have a dog to walk, and especially, some aquariums and an aviary, but just can't do. :cwm3:

I have enough equipment for at least 6 very large fish tanks, just stacked up in my bedroom...the space, plus a huge enclosed back garden. :anerikke:
