Good news indeed Les - England can only improve without him. He vies with Ferdinand as the worst England Captain of the last 30 years

If only it had been before the WC - we would have got out of group stage!

I hope the cheating Scousers keep him in their team as he's fast becoming a liability

Common sense is saying that Van Persie will be Man U captain as Louis Van Gaal, the ex Dutch manager, had Van Persie as his captain of the national team.

As for Gerrard, he is starting to be the weak link in any team that he plays in. Used to be one of the best, but time had caught up with him over the last 12 months.

Gerrard had a great last season. I take it you never watched every Liverpool match? All players have bad matches, Rooney and Van Persie had quite a few of them last season, in fact EVERY ManU payer had bad game, after bad game. :icon_lol:

Gerrard has one season left in him at best, that slip did cost you the title - no doubt about it. Nitemare for England - at fault for both goals against Uraguay.

He has been at top player over the years -a 9/10 at his best - same as Rooney in his day - but like Rooney, never world class.
Liverpool fans have often said to me he saves it for the big games and I think that's true, he can be quite ineffective in a dreary midweek game.

Rooney for captain - well no, I don't think that's a great idea either :Erm:

The trouble is, he will be the most experienced outfield player if the line of accession falls to him - but probably not a great idea :doh

Trouble is, there's no one else in that shower who could claim the captains armband :icon_lol:

To be honest, I'm fed up to the back teeth of the England team - I would like to see the whole squad ripped up and rebuilt at team level with an average age of 26 or so.

Just promote the youth team - study how Germany play and try to emulate that. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

No point in it going to a keeper, you need to be in middle of park to influence!

There's only 1 man capable of leading by example and sadly he's retired from international football.
