They must be well aclimatised to the conditions, hardly a sweaty face anywhere yet when i`m there I look like i`ve just stepped out of a shower all the time.

I will look them up as we always base ourselves in Angeles, it looks like it might be around Fontana somewhere.

Cheers, Peter

The Fat Boys 10s is at Challenger Field Clark Airbase.

Weather wise don't know whats best 100% humidity & heat of Singapore or the cold wet weather of Wales from one extreme to another.

I'm glad I'm in Sydney where Summer & Winter are reasonably tolerable and mild (for someone aclimatised ofcourse).

SEA Games welcomes Rugby Sevens

23 APRIL 2005

The Philippine Olympic Committee has confirmed that the Philippine Rugby Football Union can, for the first time, run a Rugby Sevens tournament as a Site Sport in conjunction with the South East Asian (SEA) Games later this year.

The move gives rugby Sevens the chance to shine in another multi-sport environment, having already proved a successful core ingredient of the Commonwealth Games, the Asian Games and the World Games.

The news is a further boost ahead of 8 July, when the IOC members will vote on whether the sporting programme of the 2012 Olympic Games will be changed to incorporate new sports, of which rugby is a shortlisted contender.

Reaction from the SEA participating unions has also been positive and teams from the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos and Cambodia are expected to take part in the two-day tournament, which is due to run on 3 December.

Meanwhile, it has also been agreed to expand the next Asian Rugby Football Tournament (ARFT) in Sri Lanka in November 2006 from 12 teams to a maximum of 18, opening the door for smaller nations such as the Philippines.

http://www.myph.com.ph/myph_at_leisure.htm

Games: Basketball out, rugby in

About 7,000 athletes from 11 countries are on their way to the Philippines to participate in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games which begin on November 27. A total of 441 gold medals are at stake in 41 events.

In a dramatic turnaround by Philippine standards, however, basketball will not be in the program for the first time ever – and rugby will be a part of the SEA Games for the first time.

Basketball-crazy Philippines has yanked the sport from the upcoming Games for the first time in the history of the bi-annual sports event. The Philippine Olympic Committee has canceled hoops after failing to secure backing from the International Basketball Federation.

The loss of the country’s favorite sport follows months of infighting and political bickering among the sport’s local administrators. FIBA in June banned the Philippine team from tournaments it sanctions after the POC expelled the local Basketball Association of the Philippines, the sole member association recognized by the world sporting body.

POC chairman Roberto Aventajado said the expulsion of the BAP is meant to pave the way for reorganization of the country's basketball program, after poor performances of national teams in past international tournaments.

Mr Aventajado said the BAP has failed to spur the growth of basketball, considered a national sport in this former American colony. "From a powerhouse 20 years ago, we are now cellar-dwellers. Countries which we used to beat easily have been beating us by over 40 or 60 points."

However, the upcoming SEA Games represent the official arrival of rugby at the SEA Games. The seven-a-side version of rugby will be played in Manila over the weekend of December 3-4 after the POC have the go-ahead for the Philippine Rugby Football Union to run a rugby sevens tournament as a site sport.

Rugby teams from the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos and Cambodia are expected to take part in the two-day tournament. The Philippines has the largest contingent with 743 competing athletes.

The Philippine government authorities have promised extra tight security around all Games venues – which are spread out in several cities - as a precaution against possible terrorist attacks. Even the possibility of bird flu is being looked at, and all arriving athletes will be specially screened against the deadly virus.

Quote from one of the Local Filipino Rugby players watching the SEA Rugby 7s match

"The Philippines Rugby Football Union Filipino side team played their first international match at the Nomads Sport Complex in Merville. They were the selection chosen to play 7's a side rugby. Their opponents were the national team of Indonesia. They were generally bigger than the Philippine team, but everyone heard the Philippine team in a room yelling and rallying themselves. They came out to the field with the Filipino flag and stood shoulder to shoulder and sang the Filipino national anthem.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was a bit nervous, since the National team was created and trained in only 6 weeks, whilst the Indonesian team has been training for 18 months for their first international rugby match. And, most of the Indonesians have been playing for years, while there were only about 4 experienced rugby players on the Philippine team that either have played in other countries during high school and adult level, and two professional rugby players from Australia. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Philippines had a convincing win over their opponents from Indonesia, 32-5".

Interesting article from the Indonesian perspective of the Rugby game in the Philippines prior to the event. Mind you there wasn't an article in The Jakarta Post to report on the result of the match. Which is understandable because WE KICKED THEIR BEHINDS!!!! :D But again this is an article providing insight into Indonesian Rugby.

But atleast they got an article the PRFU team even being the host country and winner got no local press and it was an offifial SEA games site sport.

National rugby team going places

Sports News - November 23, 2005
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The national "White Rhinos" charge into rugby union history next week, becoming the first all-national team to play a series of matches in the Philippines.
The matches, held as an exhibition during the 23rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from Nov. 27-Dec. 5, could lead to it becoming an official medal sport by 2007.

The new Rhino emblem, the national captain and the run-on team will be introduced at a fundraising dinner at Aphrodite Club in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Saturday night. The dinner is open to the public at a cost of Rp 200,000 per person.

"This is an enormous honor and obviously a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these players to become the first team of Indonesians to represent their nation," Indonesian Development Rugby (IDR) spokesman Geoffrey Atkinson said in a release.

"Outside soccer, rugby is the biggest football code in the world and the past 12 months has seen an explosion of interest in the game at a local level. Our men may lack the experience of some of the other sides in the region that have been playing together for years, but they are determined and have been training hard."

The 16-man squad from Jakarta, Papua, Kalimantan and Maluku go through an intensive training camp at Senayan in Jakarta this week under a Bahasa speaking coach from Singapore. The 7-a-side series in the Philippines will be a curtain-raiser to the SEA Games.

Saturday night's fundraiser also sees the New Zealand All Blacks try and create their own history as they go for the final leg of a European Grand Slam in a televised match against Scotland.

The Rhinos head for the Philippines with the full support of National Sports Council; Indonesia has already received "observer status" from the International Rugby Board and two months ago applied for full recognition.

"We hope this tournament will spark interest in other Indonesian provinces so we can soon be fully recognized at an international level," Atkinson added.
The squad was selected in Bali last month after an annual international 10-a-side tournament which went ahead despite the second Bali bombings.

The Jakarta Bantengs -- in their first year in the competition against sides from Singapore, Australia, Taipei and Guam -- won the IDR runner's-up plate. The same weekend, the first 12 Indonesians received Level 1 Coaching Accreditation through a course run by representatives of Singapore Rugby Union.

"With 220 million people in Indonesia, we have the potential to be the best in Asia," Atkinson said. "But we have to spread the game to every corner of the country. We have to introduce rugby at junior and school levels -- this is the only way to grow. We are continuously on the lookout for people interested in expanding the code and new sponsorship is vital."

IDR receives financial backing from multinational construction company Thiess and Digital 1, part of the KabelVision Network, but the game still has a way to go here.

"In Singapore, Thailand and other Asian countries, where rugby has been established for more than a decade, the game is run by full-time professionals -- which include coaching and administrative staff working off multimillion dollar budgets. We would like to head down the same path as Singapore," Atkinson said.

"In a decade they have become an Asian rugby force behind Japan and Korea. But, like us, they started with very little."

I think the great job Australia made of the last world cup sparked a lot of interest in the game plus the fact that there are not many outlets for team games where the size can range from 11 to 18 stone and its o.k. to look an ugly pratt in a scrum cap

Indonesian rugby flag flies the flag in international debut

Geoffrey Atkinson, The Jakarta Post/Jakarta

Indonesia is set to be awarded full membership in the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) following a historic silver-medal performance in the exhibition games played in conjunction with the 23rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Manila last weekend.

It was the first time a full national team has represented Indonesia, and also the first full international to be played on Philippine soil.

"This is a great honor and a giant step forward for Indonesian rugby," said Indonesian Development Rugby (IDR) president Andrew Nugroho on his return from the seven-a-side tournament in Manila. "It reflects the hard work of the committee and the dedication of our Indonesian players whose efforts on the field have made all this possible. We are extremely proud of them."

Indonesia's ARFU status will be ratified at the All-Asian body's annual meeting in Lahore, Pakistan, next week and comes less than two years after Indonesian Development Rugby (IDR) was formed in Jakarta. The Lahore meeting will be attended by IDR secretary Bill Ryan.

The Philippine exhibition tournament -- which brought together 12 teams from around the region -- is expected to see rugby football receive official SEA Games status before 2007 in Thailand.

"We are hopeful as a full national team that we will be in the medal running," Andrew said.

Only Indonesia and the Philippines managed to field full national sides last weekend. Both Singapore and Macau had entered national teams, but where made up predominantly by expatriate players. The tournament was won by Borneo who fielded six, full-time rugby professionals from Fiji in the finals. They beat the Singapore Barbarians 50-5.

In the national final the Philippines beat Indonesia 27-5. The 16-man Indonesian squad had players from West Irian, Jakarta, Kalimantan and North Maluku. All players received field time in the five matches played on the weekend.
"Bringing together players from all over Indonesia is our major challenge," said Andrew. "We are trying to establish regional competitions in as many provinces as possible and concentrate on rugby at school and junior levels."

All of this will take funding and manpower.

"Indonesia has a mighty rugby nursery -- the trick for us will be establishing teams, providing coaching and facilities all over the nation and then gathering them together under one umbrella for national matches," Andrew said.
"The vast distances and costs of air travel and accommodation mean we have a lot to work on." Indonesian rugby is an amateur organization run by a committee that donates its time for free.

They are sponsored by multinational construction company Thiess and the Kabelvision cable network.

With acceptance to the ARFU, Indonesia is expected to form the Indonesia Rugby Football Union (IRFU) now operating under the IDR banner. The IDR will continue to assist with development of national players and juniors, but the IRFU will take over full responsibility for the running of the game in Indonesia.

"We are now in a league of nations where rugby is largely administered and coached by full-time professionals from around the globe," Andrew said. "We are hoping businesses and individuals in Indonesia will be part of our growing support base. It's a big challenge but it's a challenge we are looking forward to."

Indonesia's next major international is expected to be at the 2006 Asia Rugby Championships in Sri Lanka.

PHILIPPINES RUGBY FOOTBALL NEWS - JANUARY 2006

The Cebu tourney is now postponed - new date to be advised. But Nomads will be going to Cebu on Feb 18/19 for 10-a-side games as part of the PRFU 10's League and also development coaching for Cebu by the Nomads Coach Alan McConnell. The Nomads team plan to play the official fixture then have some special coaching of both teams followed by some more training games with teams of players mixed from both sides.

Also there will be Brent School 10's Tournament on Feb 4. All schools involved - Brent, ISM , Faith Academy and MAAP at Junior Varsity and Varsity levels plus Girls Touch teams from all schools and the Nomads Ladies Touch team. The latter was formed only a year ago and now has about 35 registered players - almost all Filipinas with ages ranging from 16 - 42. And many of them are wives and mothers! So it’s not just a game for the guys!! Even better they are promoting the sport by marketing their own 2006 calendar called the Girls of Touch. It’s only P500 and a great buy, plus proof positive that rugby players can be beautiful! For more info on this contact Claire Barberis at ccbarberis@primesoft.com or simply buy one at Nomads Sports Club, in Merville, Paranaque . Check out www.nomadsportsclub.com for location.

The Nomads Ladies played in their first international tournament last week hosted at International School Manila. It was won by a well-drilled team from the International School Bangkok. That team had an excellent mix of talent including Thai, Malay, Indian, American and European girls. They were established 3 years ago and are one of the top school girls teams in Asia.

More good news!!. Recent promotion of the game to the Sports Faculty at the University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman by Nomad's Coach Alan McConnell has resulted in their agreement to form a UP Touch Rugby Club. Alan will do the coaching initially while also training other Sports Faculty staff how to coach the game. Interest is high with about 60 students attending the first briefing session and these were about 65% girls and 35% guys. Go UP!!

The next tournament coming up in the Philippines is the Alabang 10's on 4 March - contact Matt Cullen ALABANG EAGLES, mattcullen67@hotmail.com for registration.

The world famous AMEC Manila 10's, hosted by Nomads Sports Club will be held on 24/25/26 March. There will be 32 teams vying for honours and having lots of rugby fun over that weekend. Sorry guys, its too late to register for this year now - they were fully subscribed by last August. But you can come as a spectator, probably get in game or two guesting for one of the teams and enjoy the fiesta atmosphere. Register for 2007 on www.manila10s.com . Do it NOW and beat the rush!

"It reflects the hard work of the committee and the dedication of our Indonesian players whose efforts on the field have made all this possible. We are extremely proud of them."

Indonesia&#39;s ARFU status will be ratified at the All-Asian body&#39;s annual meeting in Lahore, Pakistan, next week and comes less than two years after Indonesian Development Rugby (IDR) was formed in Jakarta.

It&#39;s a big challenge but it&#39;s a challenge we are looking forward to."

Indonesia&#39;s next major international is expected to be at the 2006 Asia Rugby Championships in Sri Lanka.

Four Cebuano rugby players make it to the national team style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Grin.gif

Four players from the newly-formed Cebu City Rugby Football Club (CCRFC) were selected to be part of the Philippine rugby team.

Jerry Branzuela, Jehtro Estimo, Noel Flowers and Paulin Padayhag were handpicked by the Philippine Rugby Football Union (PRFU) to be part of the national rugby team, which is scheduled to see action against the national teams of Guam and Pakistan.

The four Cebu players showed excellent form in the recently-concluded Manila 10s Rugby Tournament last March 25 -26 at the Nomads Sports Club, in Merville, Paranaque.

Despite being only a seven-month old team, the Cebu Dragons reached the semifinals of the Manila 10s. They were beaten by the veteran-laden Tequila Mockingbirds team of Hong Kong in the semifinals.

Manila 10s

The Manila 10s tournament had 32 teams from 17 different countries. Five of the teams are from the Philippines: Cebu Dragons, Alabang Eagles, Philippine Air Force, MAAP and Nomads.

Another Cebu Dragons player, forward Dennis Pantaleon was voted as the Most Promising Young Player of the tournament.

Of the four Cebuanos, Branzuela and Flowers have the most rugby experience as they both grew up playing rugby in South Africa and Australia, respectively. Padayhag is no rookie in the field of rugby either as he was part of the Philippine national rugby team which won the gold in the last Southeast Asian Games.

While Estimo had represented Cebu and the Philippines in various powerlifting events. Estimo co-holds the Philippine record for the dead lift.

Training

The four Cebuanos will fly to Manila this month to begin training with the national squad to prepare for the series of test matches starting with Guam in May.

The CCRFC holds practice sessions every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sandtrap, along Ma. Luisa Road in Banilad, Cebu City. For inquiries regarding the sport and club sponsorship details, please contact Jerry Branzuela at 422-9656 or 09266916490.

Hi All,

I&#39;ve cut and pasted an official correspondence from the PRFU who are currently looking for Overeseas born Filipino Rugby Union players to "beef up" the current and future Philippines International team. Please contact the PRFU or onforward this correspondence to interested Filipino heritage Rugby Union players:

Date: April 17, 2006

NOTICE TO RUGBY PLAYERS OF FILIPINO HERITAGE

The Philippines Rugby Football Union will play its first two test matches under the auspices and sponsorship of the IRB and Asian Rugby Football Union on May 20 and June 10 2006. On May 18, the Philippines National team will travel to Guam to play Guam on May 20. On June 10 Pakistan will travel to
the Philippines to play the Philippines in Manila.

Under IRB eligibility rules any player who has not played for a national team and who has Filipino heritage
up to the level of a grandfather is eligible to apply and play for the Philippine National Team. As a young
union, we lack a large player base and would consider seriously the application of experienced overseas
players of Filipino heritage. We are especially interested in forwards.

Interested players would need to first apply to the PRFU giving a detailed listing of their experience and
references. They would then need to get sponsorship or pay their own way to arrive Manila no later than
May 12 (preferably earlier) for evaluation and training. It is to be understood that there is no guarantee of
selection, but we will try to give guidance based on review of the information and references submitted in
advance. Those selected would receive a subsidy (up to full support) toward the US&#036;400 cost of flights and
accommodation to Guam. Home stay accommodation at no charge will be provided in Manila during the
training period.

Those wishing to apply should send full details to the undersigned for forwarding on to the selectors
committee.

Hi deepete,

Yeah I know what you mean - but in all fairness the PRFU is only a couple of years old with a sport in a country that probaly wouldn&#39;t give 2 hoots about the sport of Rugby Union. The PRFU at present wouldn&#39;t have any pockets to dig into. But in the future I am hopping they will. Below are the stats for the PRFU as you can see it is a very small time sport in the Philippines at present:

PRFU numbers as of 23/01/2005

No. of clubs 12
Pre-teen male players 50
Pre-teen female players 20
Teen male players 200
Teen female players 100
Senior male players 150
Senior female players 10
Total male players 400
Total female players 130
Number of registered players 150
Number of referees 6

When you contacted the PRFU previously I take it for granted that was for the U19 Taiwan ARFU tournament being held at the end of the year. That is still in the planning stages for the PRFU.

Again I would like to encourage you to send you son&#39;s rugby reference to the PRFU secretary so he can at least include their details in an O/S player base they are putting together for future reference. You don&#39;t know we could all get lucky one day, the PRFU gets a major Multi-national sponsor then they can send scouts O/S to look at prospective Filipino-heritage Rugby Union players.

BTW deepete when you said you had already made contact with people in the Philippines regarding your boys playing Rugby - I am now taking it for granted that was for the U19 Taiwan ARFU tournament at the end of the year, that would have been Jay Hilario (Alabang Eagles Prop-Forward) you were talking to who was helping out someone else in the PRFU.

Jay Savage is a different person he is the PRFU secretary - higher up the pecking order.

Just wanted to clarify the different Jay&#39;s involved in the PRFU - one is a player another one in the PRFU executive.

Playing against Guam & Pakistan in May & June this players maybe enough, considering like the Philippines most of their players are amateurs.

The PRFU only made contact with the ARU in mid April when they forwarded me that letter I posted here to send to a contact in the ARU. The letter was then posted in a the Suburban Rugby general website and some individual suburban club sites:

http://www.rugby.net.au/newsitem.asp?id=10...U&O1c=12&O10c=7 (http://www.rugby.net.au/newsitem.asp?id=10509&orgID=7&Oname=NSWSRU&O1c=12&O10c=7)

Clay is a contact I provided the PRFU last year when I discovered an article on him on the net and forwarded it to the PRFU who contacted him - he plays for a Suburban club Village Lions Rugby Club New York. Jeffrey responded to one of my IRB forum post and I sent his details to the PRFU he is probably the only player they have playing above a Suburban/Amateur level playing for the OPSB RFC (seattle, wa) a USA super-league squad.

So they will need more players for future Internationals especially when they meet opposition in Asia like Japan, Korea, Hong Kong that have Professional and/or semi-professional clubs and players.

So still encouraging you to make contact with Jay Savage so they can build up their Filipino Overseas players data roster.

By Akash Shringi
For Pacific Daily News

First it was India, now it&#39;s the Philippines.

Nearly a year after tying India 8-8 in its first-ever rugby international test match, Guam will get a chance to compete against another international team.

So what does Guam need to come out on top this time around? "I think the Philippines&#39; team will come out very strong -- just like how Guam did in its international test match debut against India," Guam captain Robb Malay said. "For us to win, really, we just need to stick to our own patterns. We also need to work on all the little things in practice to fine-tune ourselves for Saturday&#39;s game. I think everybody improved from last year&#39;s game. The good thing is the guys now have a significant understanding of the game." Win or lose Saturday, Guam will travel to Manila next month to face Pakistan. That game is scheduled for June 7. Right now, Guam is ranked 82nd in the International Rugby Board world rankings; the Philippines and Pakistan are unranked.

"The Philippines is very similar to Guam, with a mix of experienced expatriates and younger local Filipino players," said Stephen Grantham, president of the Guam Rugby Football Union. "They do not get much opportunity to play as a national squad, and this will be their first full international match ... they will need to control the ball in the forwards and then use their speedy backline to score the points."

Fiji native Peniasi Uluiviti is the head coach for the 22-member Guam team. Among the 22 players, there are 12 returnees: John Arceo, Kristian Berg, Leonard Calvo, Vinson Calvo, Paul Claros, Tim Clements, Steven McManus, Malay, James Oelke, Brett Railey, Steven Sablan and Chris Sgro. The nine first-timers are Andrew Artero, Paul Eustaquio, Junior Haro, Eric Kelly, Conrad Kerber, Vern Lokeijack, Jared Quichocho, Mike Rothermich and Tim Wendon. Eddie Calvo, the 22nd member, was supposed to play against India last year but suffered a leg injury."

We&#39;ve started training together for about over a month now," Uluiviti said. "We&#39;ve been good, but we&#39;ll see how good we are on Saturday. This team has a mix of older players and young ones. One of our goals here is to protect the future development of rugby."

The coach is inviting the entire island to come out and support the Guam team.

"And I&#39;m sure it&#39;ll be a great game," he added.

<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%">GOOD LUCK TO THE
PHILIPPINE VOLCANOES in GUAM&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;</span>

The Philippine Volcanoes Rugby Team have arrived in Guam today (Friday 19 May) and will be the FIRST Philippine 15-a-side Team to play Rugby in an International game organised and sanctioned by the Asian Rugby Football Union and the International Rugby Board. Its part of a Triangular Series between the Philippines - Guam - Pakistan

The Philippine Volcanoes are ready to take on Guam on Saturday 20 May at 2 pm Philippines time (4 pm in Guam).

I have been at every training session and seen the improvement in fitness and teamwork over the recent weeks. The squad has coalesced from a bunch of guys from all the clubs all over the Philippines - Nomads, Makati Chiefs, Alabang Eagles, MAAP and Cebu Dragons - to a well-drilled squad who are up for the game. I am sure of that.

And once they all put on the Blue, Red & White Philippine Rugby Football Union Jersey and walk onto the field they will feel like a TEAM and want to win that game for the honor of Philippines.

IRB rules allow that Filipino Nationals, those with Filipino lineage (whether living overseas or not) and expatriates with at least 3 years residency in the country are eligible to represent the Philippines. As a result, the squad of 22 is 50% Filipino and 50% expatriate, which is a fantastic achievement as many of the young local guys have only been playing the game a year or so. So the Philippine Rugby Football Union - presided over by Admiral Eduardo Santos (Retired) - has selected a squad with a mix of age and experience plus youth and vitality. Hopefully a perfect combination&#33;&#33;

The squad is: Romain Barberis, French – CAPTAIN; Carlito Abono, Filipino; Jeff Betinol, Filipino/Canadian; Jerry Branzuela, Filipino; Jerry Echter, Dutch; Tom Egerton, Australian; Brian Feldcamp, American; Noel Flowers, Filipino; Chris Hartley, Australian; Charles Jarvis, Filipino/NZ; Clay Luraschi, Filipino/American; Sean Redpath, British; Evans Maina, Kenyan; Dean Nelson, South African/Dutch; Paulin Padayhag, Filipino; Chris Hettell, Filipino/Australian; Alvin Sandiego, Filipino; Eric Savina, French; Max Stewart, Australian; David Thomas, American; Carlos “Horse” Reporas, Filipino; Rener “Brutus” Echano, Filipino.

The team management group are: Phil Gittus, British – Team Manager; Mike McMahon, Australian – Head Coach; Matt Cullen, Australian – Asst Coach; Jay Savage, American – PRFU Board Secretary.

After Guam, the game for the Philippines against Pakistan will be played at Nomad Sports Club, Merville Subdivision, Paranaque. Metro Manila on Saturday 10 June 2006. That will be the final game of the Triangular Series. Earlier in the same week, on Wednesday 7 June, there will be a game between Pakistan and Guam which will also be played at Nomads Sports Club. The Philippines will also have the honor of hosting, for the first time, the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) mid-year meeting for all the 28 member unions from all over Asia. Delegates will come from as far afield as Kazakhstan to the West, Japan to the North, Indonesia to the South and Guam to the East and they will all be watching the Philippine Volcanoes play on their home soil.

These games and the ARFU meeting have taken a year to set up - starting at the mid-year ARFU meeting in Guam last June - but the efforts of the PRFU are now bearing fruit and we are now achieving international status and IRB recognition.

From all of us here

It was 7-5 to Guam at the 34th minute - one converted and one unconverted try and now we scored again in the last few minutes of the first half so its 10-5 to Philippines.

Two tries to us - Dean Nelson - Nomads 2nd Row and Clay Luraschi our Phil/Am import.

20 mins into 2nd half Edgerton scored a penalty. So it was 13 - 7 to the Volcanoes&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;

In the 30th minute - Dean Nelson scored his 2nd try. So it was 18 - 7 to the Volcanoes&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;

Then they came back and scored one about 5 mins from end so it was 18-14.

International Rugby Board (IRB) Match Report

<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%">Philippines make history on Guam 20/05/06

Philippines take first international scalp</span>

In its first full international match, the Philippines beat Guam 18–14 in the Asian Rugby Football Union/IRB sanctioned Triangular Series between Guam, the Philippines and Pakistan.

The match played in hot, humid conditions on Guam was well played, clean and hard fought.
While Guam spent the first 10 minutes camped inside the Philippines’ 22-metre line, the Philippines defence held firm.

After thirteen minutes of play and following a succession of kicks down field, the Philippines scored first with a try scored by lock forward Dean Nelson from a quick ruck 10 metres from the Guam goal-line.
Three minutes later Guam struck back with a fine try crafted by scrumhalf Steven Sablan. The try was converted by Vinson Calvo.

Right on half-time, the Philippines recycled the ball from a ruck on the Guam 22-metre line. The ball was passed well along the backline to fullback Clay Luraschi who went over for the try in the left corner. The try was not converted.

Korean referee, Kim Do Suk, blew for half-time with the Philippines leading Guam 10 – 7.

Nineteen minutes into the second half, Guam forwards were penalised for leaving their feet entering a ruck. Philippines’ outside half Thomas Egerton kicked a penalty goal to stretch the Philippines lead by six points.
Six minutes later the Philippines scored a try from excellent support play as their forwards won possession from a ruck and lock Dean Nelson dived over for a try.

Guam fought back valiantly and were rewarded when Tevita Vuniwaqa’s try on the 36th minute was converted with an excellent kick by Jarad Quichocho.

Guam desperately pressured the Philippines in the last minutes of the game but the Philippines defence continued to hold firm with fine cover tackles. Both teams were exhausted when the referee blew the final whistle to give the Philippines a well deserved 18–14 win over Guam.
Scorers:
For Philippines:
Tries: Dean Nelson 2, Clay Luraschi
Pens: Thomas Egerton
For Guam:
Tries: Steven Sablan, Tevita Vuniwaqa
Cons: Vinson Calvo, Jarad Quichocho

I’ve reproduced a pdf article on the test match from a local Guam newspaper brought back by the PRFU Secretary Jay Savage:

Pacific Sunday News SPORTS May 21, 2006 p.36

<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%">Philippines hangs on to beat Guam</span>

By Akashi Shringi: For Pacific Sunday News

The Philippines fared well in its international test rugby debut.

The Philippines team – made up of mostly experienced expatriates – gave it all it had in an 18 -14 win over Guam in an international rugby match yesterday at the Wettengel Rugby Field.

The Philippines took a 5-0 lead early in the game when Dean Nelson scored a try. Guam responded six minutes later and took a 7-5 lead. Guam’s Paul Eustaquio broke loose on the far side before flipping the ball to speedster Steven Sablan who scored the try. Vinson Calvo made the free kick to give the home team the lead.

The Philippines, however, came back over the game’s next 40 minutes and scored 13 consecutive points to take a commanding 18 – 7 lead.

Clay Luraschi gave the Philippines a 10-5 lead after scoring a try on an assist from Jeffrey Bentinol. Tom Egerton missed the free kick, but he made one later in the game after a Guam penalty. Egerton made the field-goal-type kick to give the Philippines its biggest lead of the game at 18-7.

Guam, playing with growing desperation, made a short rally and almost won the game.

First it was Fijian David Vuniwaqa who scored on a straight-run try to trim Guam’s deficit to 18-12.
Nineteen-year old Jared Quichocho was successful on the kick attempt, and all of a sudden it was an 18 – 14 game.

With less than a minute left in the game, Guam found itself above 10 yards away from another try. But Evans Maina stole the ball with 19 seconds left in the game to secure the win.

2nd international match on Gauam
This is the second year in a row that Guam has hosted an international test rugby match. Last year, Guam played its first World Rugby Cup qualifier against India at Wettengel. The game ended in an 8 – 8 tie.

Friday May 26 2006

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Scored crucial try in victory</span>

Clay Luraschi, who plays wing for the Village Lions RFC in New York, recently was given the opportunity of a lifetime-- and made the most of it. The American-born Luraschi played for the Philippines last weekend in a World Cup qualifier against Guam.

His playing status was questionable after tearing a pectoral muscle at his first training in the Philippines, but he played hurt and scored a crucial try at fullback. The Philippines hung on to defeat Guam 18-14.

"It was such an unbelievable experience,” Luraschi said after returning to New York. “Playing in an international test match is so intense, because you&#39;re not just playing rugby, but you&#39;re representing an entire country. It was an absolute honor to play for the Philippines and I can&#39;t wait to do it again."

Luraschi was discovered when officials from the Philippines Rugby Union were made aware of an “A Pint With” interview with him on the Village Lions website, www.villagelions.org. Luraschi’s nationality (his father is Filipino) is mentioned in the interview.

<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%">Pakistan 27-22 Guam, in Manila </span>

Pakistan won a fine match in Manila as brave Guam fell to their second close defeat in a matter of weeks.
The game started with two quick tries to winger Edwood Calro of Guam and then to veteran hooker, Sulman Majeedwain. The difference came from the impressive blindside flanker and kicker for Pakistan, Kashif Khawaja, who converted for Pakistan to take his side to an early 7-5 lead. The game quietened down after this opening spell as the players began to feel the humid temperatures.

Pakistan extended their lead just before half time through number 8, Azmat Khan, exploiting some sloppy defence by Guam from a quick tap. This was converted by Kashif – 14 points to 5 in favour of Pakistan at the break. Guam had several lapses in concentration throughout the match, which cost them three tries and they will also be disappointed by the many unforced errors that let scoring opportunities go begging.

Pakistan put Guam under real pressure in the second half by scoring a try and a penalty to Kashif Khawaja and push the score out to 22 points to 5. However as Guam started to hold their passes and utilise the ball better the game became exciting and with six minutes to go unbelievably the scores were locked up at 22-22 after Guam scored two tries. Guam did, though, miss five kicks at goal, which proved crucial as they had the fitness and displayed the skills as Pakistan tired.

However, on the rare occasion that Pakistan was in Guam’s half, they scored. Big second row Mohsin Khan packed down at number 8 and fooled everyone by picking the ball up from the base of the scrum, giving a small dummy pass and ran 25 metres for what was the final score of the match – 27 to 22 to Pakistan.
Kashif Khawaja was outstanding for Pakistan. The team would be very happy with the win and sets up an interesting encounter against the other unbeaten team in Division 5 – Philippines on the 10 June. Guam would be disappointed with their performance.

11 JUNE 2006

By Jamie Scott and Jarrad Gallagher, in Manila

Pakistan wrapped up their 2006 Asian Nations Series group five campaign with a well earned 24-3 victory over the Philippines in Manila.

The Philippines had the upper hand in the first half, bottling their opposition up in their own 22 for the opening quarter but Pakistan were able to soak up the pressure.

With half time looming they scored a fine try, wing Arslan Zahid crossing the line. A tight first half ended with the score at 7-3 in favour of Pakistan.

Much improved from their 27-22 mid-week victory over Guam, Pakistan showed strong defence and good organisation and were able to establish territorial advantage, which in turn placed the Philippines under pressure.

Two further tries came for Pakistan in the second half, a second for Zahid and one for flanker Rehan.

Earlier, in Singapore on Thursday, Kazakhstan beat Singapore 29-0.

British Pakistani rugby players, play their part in Pakistan’s historic Test victory

15/06/2006

The above picture displays Rugby star Ikram Butt together with fellow West Yorkshire-based players Rashid Mahmood (Earlsheaton RL), Amraz Hamid (Hunslet Warriors RL), Junaid Malik (Elland RL) and Rehan Mansoor (Old Crossleyans RU) & London-based Shahid Rafiq (Battersea Ironsides RU), after helping Pakistan record their second successful Test victory this time against the Philippines RFU.

It was the first time that Pakistan had been entered into the internationally recognised Tri Nation Test tournament. Along the way the Pakistan Test team created a little bit of history by winning its first ever game against a strong Guam team. To prove that it was no fluke and only with three days to recover Pakistan went on to also defeat a very well organised Philippines team.

Ikram Butt, BARA Director, “We are delighted to play our part in Pakistan’s first ever Test victory. The whole event was an emotional & satisfying experience. It is always an honour & privilege to represent Pakistan. All the BARA players were outstanding and significantly contributed to helping Pakistan become victorious”.

Rizwan Malik, Pakistan’s Head Coach, “The injection of the BARA players into the Pakistani team proved to be the key element to our victories. Their level of skill & experience brought the best out of my players. I look forward to linking up with the BARA players in preparation for the South Asian Games this November in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Pot Bellied Pigs marauding into town!
By Dennis Dungao

THE word is definitely out... this is what sports and non-sports enthusiasts in Angeles City have been anticipating, The 3rd Fat Boy's 10's 2006 International Rugby.

Characterized by slapstick and good-humored playing style, the Pot Bellied Pigs, the prime movers of The 3rd Fat Boy's 10's 2006 International Rugby, are to Asian Rugby, what the Harlem Globetrotter's are to American Basketball... but perhaps without their physique, agility and skill levels.

The Pot Bellies were originally formed in 1997 with their first tour of Manila in the same year. The idea was to become a touring rugby team with a mission... "Put the PINK back into rugby." This first tour was the "love child" of a drunken meeting of minds between "Freddie the Clock" and "Haughty the Amah- slayer." The touring squad was composed entirely of social (drunkard) players sourced out from Hong Kong's various clubs. The inaugural game was against the Manila Nomads. Since inception, the Pot Bellied Pig's have gone from strength to strength with a formal club structure established in 2001. The Pot Bellied Pigs are now predominantly a touring side, which draws on like-minded rugby players from clubs all over Asia and beyond who adhere to the true amateur spirit of the game. The Pot Bellied Pigs attend rugby tournaments held in many cities in Asia, including, Manila, Jakarta, Phuket, Bangkok, Macau, Bali, Pattaya, Seoul, Phnom Penh, and Hat Yai.

The Pot Bellied Pig's are tournament favorites throughout Asia, resplendent in their tours which is different from every tour, with uniforms always a combination of the club's color pink, lime green, yellow and blue. The recent award of the most "Social" team at the 2004 Manila 10's illustrates the regard in which the rugby community holds the Pigs. Today the Pot Bellied Pig's have developed into an Asian touring club. The club has members living in all the far - flung corners of the world, from the Ukraine to Texas and from the Orkney Island to Tasmania. These absent Pigs do their best to attend at least one tour a year. The Pot Bellied Pig's have recently begun to win a few games on a regular basis reaching the semi final of the Plate competition in the Manila 10's in 2003, winning the Plate Competition in the Jakarta 10's 2002, and in 2004 winning the ball at the Manila 10's and being runners - up in the bowl at the Phuket 10's.

The pinnacle of The Pot-bellied Pigs' potted history is to hold its very own “FAT BOY'S 10'S” tournament in Angeles City, Philippines annually. This is a charity event with the two nominated charities being the Bahay Bata Orphanage, a Rotary for street kids in Angeles City, and the Philippine Rugby Football Union Development Fund.

The 3rd Fat Boy's 10's 2006 International Rugby is an eclectic mix of teams- an international one at that, as the NOMADS RFC, ALABANG EAGLE'S, HKFC LUVANDALS, THE OLD BILL, MAKATI WOLVES, PJ PACKERS, SEOUL BARBARIANS (KOREA), MYSTERIOUS HOUND DOGS, BANGKOK BANGERS, and PHILIPPINE WARRIOR (MARINE ACADEMY OF ASIA AND THE PACIFIC) were expected to compete.

The Angeles City Alliance, a unique group of Bars and Restaurant working together to bring the Angeles City tourism at its the best in dining and after dinner partying, led by Subdelicious Restaurant, do welcome the FAT BOY'S 10. They were known to host this comical group every time they're in town. Come and join the Fat Boy's weigh-in on the 2nd floor at SubDelicious on AUGUST 25TH from 7 p.m. till late.

The success of the Pot-bellied Pigs' 2nd FAT BOY'S 10'S 2006 INTERNATIONAL RUGBY last year was so tremendous that this year there is an increase from 10 teams to 16 teams. Watch the fun and learn the art of the FAT BOY'S style of sport. Everybody is welcome, as entrance is FREE!!!! The Kick-off and fun begins on August 26, 2006 from 8am until 6pm; see you all at the Challenger Field, Clark Special Economic Zone.

Fat Boys set to roll once more

Fun and funding will once again be the themes when the Pot Bellied Pigs stage the “Third Inaugural, International, Invitational Fat Boys TENS III” at Clarke Airbase in Angeles City, the Philippines, on August 26.

As in previous years, money raised will go towards the Bahay Bata Centre for Street Children in Angeles City and the Philippines Rugby Union Development Fund.

“The Centre for Street Children was opened by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2001 but it requires constant funding to keep it afloat,” says Pigs club secretary Mike Hampton.

“We need to keep reminding ourselves that children are our future and that it is vitally important to help these underprivileged and neglected youngsters who cry out for a little help.”

The Philippines Rugby Union, meanwhile, uses its share of the proceeds to spread rugby among the Filipino community – an initiative that has produced excellent results in recent years.

Last year’s Fat Boys Tens – featuring teams from the Philippines and overseas – raised $HK150,000 for the twin causes.

Pigs chairman Alun Grassick and corporate liaison officer Anson Bailey paid a special visit to the Bahay Bata Centre in December to present a cheque. Says Bailey: “We were treated to a special dance and singing performance by the children and, more importantly, we saw so many happy, smiling little faces.”

Almost all team places are taken for this year’s Fat Boys Tens – SPONSORED BY THE LAW FIRM Tanner De Witt and Clariant (China Ltd) – so Bailey’s advice is: “Act now!” In addition, he is happy to accept individual or company donations.

For more information, contact Anson Bailey on 93825797 or visit www.potbellies.org (http://www.potbellies.org/)

Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh Yeeeeeeeeeeeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - good win for the Nomads at the Fat Boy 10's at the weekend - champs last year and again this year.

Pool games were relatively easy but then came up against the Alabang Eagles - the old arch rivals in the Semi's. Was a hard game but won it 2 tries to nil.

The final was a really tough game against the host team - the Pot Belly Heavies. They had some really good players on the team and most were a lot larger than Nomads. Nomads had the fitness though and managed to score a single try with about 2 minutes to go in the final.

Great tournament and thanks to the Pot Belly Pigs for organising such a good day - it is getting bigger and better every year. This year the team numbers were up from 10 to 16 and the quality of the teams has improved as well.

No doubt that the biggest winners of all though are the Bahay Bata Kids and the PRFU which split the proceeds of the weekend.

Big thanks to the Piggies for that!!

Just got this message from Headroom on the Manila tonight forum site:http://manilatonight.com/index.php?showforum=193 (http://manilatonight.com/index.php?showforum=193)

Cappelan - looks like the line up will be as follows:

1.Carlito Abono (Filipino)
2. Jasper Ching(Filipino)
3. Paulin Padhayag (Filipino)
4. Max Stewart (Australian)
5. Carlos Reporas (Filipino)
6. Bruno Vergnes (French)
7. Noel Flowers (Filipino/Australian)
8. Jerry Echter (Dutch)
9. Jerry Branzuela (Filipino/South African)
10. Jason Foster(Filipino)
11. Rey Gigataras(Filipino/Australian)
12. Damien Allison(English)

13. Physio: Olive R. Rallanka (Filipino)

Most of the expat players eligible to play were either unavailable or injured following the FB 10's.

The Philippines is the lowest ranked team competing and the pool games are against Khyzakstan and Chinese Taipei.

Although there was some concern about sending such an inexperienced squad to play, my thoughts are that it will be good for the young Filipinos to go and get some experience on the International Stage - the next step for Rugby in the Philippines.

As the rank outsiders and underdogs there is absolutely nothing to lose.

IT IS GREAT TO SEE A MAJORITY PINOY TEAM - THEY WILL LEARN A LOT FROM THIS EXPERIENCE. TAIWAN world ranking 41 Asian 5 & KAZHAKSTAN world ranking 49 Asian 8. PHILIPPINES world ranking 106 Asian 15 LITTLE DAVID v GOLIATH - BRING IT ON

The other thing that needs to be remembered here is that this was also a qualifying tournament for next year's 7's World Cup.

The majority of the teams were professional - paid to play with lots of resources and money and training as a unit on a full time basis.

The Philippines team was thrown together at the last minute when a position at the tournament became available - the team had a total of 2 training sessions together.

Add this that the team lacked the experience of the the other countries and you get a better perspective of the challenge that the team faced as a bunch of amateurs.

They didn't give in though, played hard and everyone should be proud of them.

Go to www.prfu.com (http://www.prfu.com/) website. I found his observation of the development of Rugby amongst locals in the Philippines interesting especially in its capacity to provide participants with employment outside Rugby.

BTW clarification the team that won the Manila 7s (South East Asian Games Rugby 7s site sport) was a Malaysian based team from the state of Sabah dominated by Fijians. AND THE PHILIPPINES WON THE INTERNATIONAL COMPONENT OF THE TOURNAMENT BEATING INDONESIA 32-5.

Sinulog rugby tilt attracts Malaysian team

SIX teams will battle it out for the debut staging of the Rugby Football Club Cebu City-organized Sinulog 10s Rugby Festival today at the Camp Lapu-Lapu Field in Lahug.

The country’s top-ranked teams, including a foreign contender from Malaysia, dispute for the Dragon Cup, the top honors bequeathed to the champion team.

With the homecourt edge, Cebu Dragons Rugby Club will field two teams that will defend its turf as they confront the visiting Alabang Eagles, Nomads, Maritime Academy Warriors and the Malaysian squad—RSC Dalmatians—which came all the way from Selangor.

Top 2 teams

Alabang and Nomads are the country’s top two teams. The two Cebu squads, on the other hand, rank third and fourth respectively, in the national level.

Tru to its title, the 10s tournament adopts a 10-a-side format with 10 playing minutes given for each half. Teams play in a round robin to determine the team that will play in the final round.

Later in the day, regional pride is put at stake the best from Luzon challenge the best from Visayas in the battle for supremacy. (MCB)

Cebu teams wiped out
By Marian C. Baring Sun.Star Staff Reporter

CEBU teams were wiped out in the First Sinulog 10s Rugby Festival held last weekend at the Camp Lapu-Lapu Field in Lahug, Cebu City.

The Cebu Dragons Rugby Club fielded in two teams in the one-day tournament, but its best finishes are runners up diadems in two events.

The Cebu Black Dragons finished second in the Dragon’s Tail event, as they were completely overshadowed by the MAAP Warriors, 4-0 in the championship round.

Surviving a scare

In the Dragon’s Cup competition, Alabang Eagles, the country’s top seeded rugby team, survived a scare against fellow Manila team, Nomads Sports Club, to capture the title in this class.

The Eagles needed extra time before thwarting Nomads, 4-2.

The Eagles and Nomads forced each other to a 2-all deadlock in regulation period to extend the game. In overtime, the Eagles went on to score two points to take the winning trophy.

Too much for local team

Foreign team Royal Selangor Dalmatians did better than the home team as it will go home with a trophy in tow after copping the Dragon’s Bowl title.

The Malaysians proved to be too much for the home team as it thrashed the other Cebu Team, the Cebu White Dragons, 8-1, for the title.

With the successful debut of the competition, the organizers promised to have a sequel in next year’s Sinulog.

The Cebu Dragons will have a few months rest before embarking once more on another bid as they try to redeem themselves in another competition in March in Metro Manila before coming back home for another national tournament here in Cebu.

Rugby fever hits Manila
05/26/2007

France will host the 6th edition of the 6th Rugby World Cup on Sept. 7 to Oct. 20, the first time a non-English speaking country will host the event.

Twenty nations from five continents will be competing in 10 French cities where the 1998 Fifa World Cup was also held. These are: Bordeaux, Lens, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, Paris, Saint-Denis, Saint-Etienne and Toulouse.

The tournament is expected to draw 2.5 million spectators and watched by four billion television viewers.

In Manila, rugby fever kicks off today as French Ambassador Gerard Chesnel leads the festivities at 2 p.m. at the European International School Stadium. Official shirts for the 2007 Rugby World Cup will be presented while demonstration matches of Touch Rugby by students and the women’s national team are also scheduled.

Rendezvouz 2007, a project which aims to gather 80 young rugby players from local schools outside France will also be launched. They will meet up with other athletes in France for two weeks.

Angeles City Rugby 10’s Charity fundraiser & Party, September 1

The annual Fat Boys 10s rugby festival is coming up again, bringing a contingent of rugby enthusiasts from Hong Kong’s Pot Bellied Pigs Rugby Football Club to the Philippines to meet their over-sized local counterparts in Angeles City for a weekend of rugby and partying for charity.

The actual game happens on September 1 at the Challenger Stadium at Clark. On the other days and evenings over the weekend, there are various Fat Boys 10s party events around Angeles which raise money for charity and rugby development, shared between the Angeles Bahay Bata Center – an orphanage run by the local Rotary club - and the Philippines Rugby Football Union’s development fund.

Last year, the Fat Boys 10s raised over US$25,000; this year the target is $32,000. Team base hotel is again the Maharajah; the golf tournament is at the Mimosa Golf Club, Bar HQ is Insomnia; restaurant of choice is Sub-Delicious for the 1,000 pesos per head charity dinner and auction.

I hope that answers your question the SEA games falls under the Olympic umbrella all athletes representing the country must hold Filipino citizenship or have dual citizenship.

Our major headache when putting this squad together was finding players that qualify for Philippines Dual citizenship one of our players is still finalising his application this Wednesday & we fly out to Thailand on Saturday.

RP rugby football squad proud of SEAG silver

By Ruben D. Manahan 4th, Reporter

THE Philippine Rugby Football Union is very proud of its men’s team for winning the silver medal in the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.

PRFU General Manager Rey Gigataras said that he’s more than satisfied with the performance of the team which debuted in the biennial meet.

“Of course, we want to win the gold medal, who doesn’t? But the fact that these players had a shot for the gold considering that this is their first time to play in the SEAG, winning the silver is truly amazing,” said Gigataras.

In the semifinal round, the Philippines scored a 12-7 victory over Malaysia. The Malaysians actually dominated the pool round, posting clinical wins over five competing countries, including a 17-12 triumph over the Filipinos.

In the finals, the Philippines put up a strong challenge against the tough Thailand side but lost, 14-28.

“Our players gave their best and made themselves proud,” said Gigataras. “They suffered a 0-22 loss to the Thais in the pool round and they were able to improve their game in the finals.”

The PRFU is now gearing up the next SEAG to be hosted by Laos in 2009. “We will try to work on our game and make the team more competitive to have an even better chance to win the gold,” said Gigataras.

Meanwhile, Gigataras said the team will start preparing for the triangular test matches possibly with Guam and Macau from June to July next year.

“We have 1-win 1-loss record in last year’s test matches. We would like to have a better standing this year,” he added.

Gigataras also bared plans to put up a women’s team. “It’s a long process but we’re very interested to have one.”

Does anyone know of the best way to watch 6 nations matches here in the Phils? Internet probably won't work because the broadband here is a too slow to go through a UK proxy. I was wondering if any ex-pats know of any bars where it might just be shown.

btw, Capelan, I'm quite impressed with the amount of work you're doing for Phils rugby. Perhaps when my youngest is grown up he could give you a call? You'll have to wait a little while though - he's not due to arrive until the middle of this year.

Thanks for the information MadWelsh. I had to "listen" to us v Italy via a bulletin board which is a strange way to know what's going on. I'm not sure if the lag on my connection will be too much to go via proxy but I'll give it a go.

Hook or Jones for OH? Or rather, which one to start? heh, it's nice to have this choice... :xxgrinning--00xx3:

If you are in Makati here is an option http://www.sids.ph/gallery2.html to watch some games.

This 10s event is on this W/E if you can make it & meet the people involved in the rugby scene in the Philippines.

I wasn't able to go out but managed to get a live feed from the BBC for some reason - perhaps God smiles on his own game or maybe there was a kind Welshman working at the Beeb who wanted to share the excitement with the world.
