Applied for the dinky new European health insurance card online on September 15th. After all the website did say 3 to 7 day turnaround. Everyone else I know that has applied has received theirs almost by return of post. Same bloody joke as dealing with Tax Credits, Income Tax, National Insurance and any other governmental department full of morons. Needless to say the cards have not arrived and I am getting the usual excuses when I phone.
Normally I would not be too bothered but with the demise of the E111 at the end of the year it will make renewing the wife's Schengen Visa awkward if it isn't forthcoming. I will give them a few more days to produce the goods then lodge an official complaint.
Anyone else had problems with obtaining one?

When I obtained mine for holidays in Europe I just went to the post office counter and got them straight away, that was a couple of years ago, have they changed the scheme.

Hi Peter,
Going into the post office was the old and still current scheme. All E111 issued by the post office expire on 31st December 2005 and there is a new scheme which is called the European Health Insurance Card ( same thing as the old E111 but it is now a piece of plastic like a credit card).

http://www.ehic.ie/

will give you more details and it is possible to apply online and not receive the card!!
