You know Graham, when I was a child during 1940's & 50's we had snow and ice every winter and no central heating. When I woke up in the morning the windows had thick ice on the inside and my first job in the morning was to make the fire in the old black fireplace with newspaper and sticks and when this got burning I then put the coal on, it was great to start to feel the warmth. With regards to Steves comment about colds, I must confess I've only had flu once in my life also never had a cold for seventeen years, and I think the reason is because I was brought up to always dress accordingly.

Michael, my experience as a child was exactly the same mate. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Touch wood, I also suffer from virtually no flu or other winter type ailments.

I have central heating here, but I don't normally use it...just hate that dry stuffy feeling it creates, not to mention the bills.

being the youngest lad in the family i was the first in the bed, there was top and tail in our beds, 4 of us sharing so it was down to me to get the bed warm, i had been moved 3 times everynight when my bros moved me to the cold parts, and sometimes with the old army coats thrown on the bed to keep us warm, nest morning we was wearing them:xxgrinning--00xx3:

About 20 of us went to the beach yesterday at 9.30.. We put up this huge awning and an an hour later the skies went dark just as I was about to crack open my 3rd SMB..
20 of us struggled to get the thing down in heavy winds and rain..
Thought I`d mention this to help cheer you poor ole buggers up a bit.
