TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Aug 24 (PIA) -- "Twenty four out of 28 private hospitals in Eastern Visayas have opened its doors to poor patients by forging a deal with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) in the region implementing the No Balance Billing (NBB) policy to indigent patients in the region.

Walter Bacareza, PhilHealth Eastern Visayas regional vice president, said the forging of the deal signed between PhilHealth president and chief executive officer Dr. Eduardo Banzon and the 24 hospital operators was held at the Oriental Hotel.

Banzon commended the government health insurance agency in the region for its efforts towards providing wider access for healthcare services for poor families in the region.

Bacareza said 82 percent of total accredited private hospitals are adopting a policy that allows poor patients to avail healthcare services for free. He added that the region has the highest number of accredited private health facility with NBB among the regions in the country. "
