Hey guys im just sharing my first week in UK. Yes, you read it right, i am now in Cardiff UK, and am ENJOYING the place so much. My flight went well except in Heathrow Airport where one of the staff at the airport stop me on my way to arrival area. Here's what happened, so i took my trolley to put in my luggage, i think the trolley is the loudest and oldest trolley in heathrow airport and so difficult to control it considering how small i am and how heavy my luggage is. Then ta.da.. he stopped me, ( i thought he was going to help me :NoNo:) pulled me to a corner and start asking me question if am bringing cigarrettes and smokes and all that then he did not check my bag just chatted, ask me if am travelling alone i said yes, and my husband is waiting for me at the arrival area! suprisingly and abruptly he let me go!! HOWS THAT??:yikes::Erm:

as soon as i got to cardiff it was non stop meeting my family over here and its a BLAST! i am so loved and bless! now me and my husband are busy looking for a flat and sorting out bank account that the bank wont give me because i have no utility bills! isnt that stupid to ask for a utility bill under my name when i just arrived? does any of you know how i can do this without all these hassles?

Do you look like a heavy smoker ? :icon_lol:

Anyway, I'm glad to hear you're settling in. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

The problem with our banks is that they naturally assume that everyone is as dishonest as they are...so have the cheek to doubt your motives when you wish to give them YOUR money. :NoNo:

Glad to hear you're enjoying your first days in UK.
Looks like you've been busy.

Have your name added to council tax bills and any other utility you can as soon as you have your own place.
Keep trying to get that bank account:xxgrinning--00xx3:

The very worst case scenario is to 'buy' an account with HSBC who do a HSBC Passport Account where no proof of address is needed. Not sure how much that is these days.

There are banks out there that can help you. Might try Co-op bank as they used to do a similar scheme but no charges.

Good luck

Glad you arrived safely and that you're enjoying the Welsh hospitality.

The customs guy was just doing his job. By asking you a few questions he was gauging your responses to see if you were nervous etc. and whether to search further.

For utility bills - my advice is to get your beloved to add you to a electric/gas/water/council tax account before you arrive. Not always easy as you need to speak to them too, but it can be planned, they can call and the company makes a note on your account, then you call and add yourself as you now have their permission registered on the account. I managed to add Rose to my council tax bill as I had just moved into the property and completed the 'new owner' form.

Welcome to the UK:Wave:
..you should sue that airport staff with harrassment :D
we never had problems opening a new account and putting my name with my husbands account in Barclays , I just brought with me my passport no utility bills perhaps because my husband has been banking with them for ages.

Get yourself on the flat lease agreement. That will help to.

Don't worry about the guy in the airport, it can be worse if you go to US.
They ask for utility bills with everyone so just ask your name to be included in the bills. I know you are excited but no need to hurry.
Welcome to UK
