An earthquake with an magnitude of 8.7 has struck under the sea off Indonesia's northern Aceh province.

Indonesia straddles the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone of major seismic activity.



"Straddles"....more like part of it.....

The earthquake is not on the fault line itself so is unlikely to cause a tsunami, but still possible.

The reason I tend to think of Krakatoa is because it wasn't really so long ago. My old nan was born less than 20 years later.

Just been reading the BBC update. Fault movements were favourable - "strike-slip". Which is good.
