His courage in the face of almost certain death earned him the Victoria Cross.

Tul Bahadur Pun single-handedly stormed Japanese machine-gun positions during the Second World War. The Gurkha’s extraordinary act of valour won him royal admirers and he was invited to the Queen’s Coronation and had tea with the Queen Mother.

The old soldier was told: "You have failed to demonstrate that you have strong ties with the UK."

Today, I am ashamed to be called British..

:NoNo:

i thought they had changed the law with Gurkha's rights, :cwm23:

good enough to die for Britian, not good enough to live here thou.. :bigcry:

tea with the queen mother, and failed to demomstrate strong ties with the uk, whats being paid by the gov/tax payer,( surely if you have done 5 years service you should be entitled to apply for ILR, as anyone on a workpermit here can :Rasp: , and earning its highest award for bravery. :icon_lol:

not much amazes about this country :cwm24:

I did sign the petition(which I would have done anyway) but not sure how much good it will do for this particular case as it is for the Gurkha's in general.
This guy deserves a seperate petition IMO.

They changed the pension rights, but even that didn't cover all of them.

When they join up, they sign a contract to say that they basically hand there life over to the British government......I'd call that a tie!!!

4 or 5 years service , i'd call that claim for ILR , just becuase they are out of the country working for the gov, should not effect their claim for ILR.

a few more 1000's decent people here is not goingto make much difference when are are 100,000s of eastern europeans coming here every year. like i said before they cannot stop the europeans , but they can from outside europe coming here.

It seems endemic now, that the UK does not recognize who is worth sponsoring to enter the country.
The authorities only allow any Tom, Dick or Harriett with dodgy passports, from all sorts of obscure places, People with appalling criminal records, one legged roofers, circus artistes... ( my :butthead:...) and generally of dubious moral tendencies.
But again, the country, fails miserably in helping the very people that helped it preserve democracy and common values of decency.
So the moral of the story in the UK is, if you are a no good, useless sponger, you can come here and are welcome to apply for any benefit you can put your filthy mitts on... But if you are a war hero, that nearly died in battle, you might as well forget it, because according to the pen-pushers you don't show to have any "ties"...

I am not ranting... just disappointed in the system.
