Can't be too late as it means he'll never get Benghazi back, and the 'rebels' are getting more organised now with military leadership. When Gobaffi's troops realise they are sitting ducks, and it's them against the word, the tide will start to change. The problem will be Tripoli, the fall of that has to come from the inside.

Gaddafi's run up the white flag - next he will start taking liberties like Sadaam did

This is totally different ... regardless of what he does, he's going eventually. The cease fire is not likely to last. The people start going back on the streets in Libya again, the authorities aren't just going to stand around. It is also basicallt a siege around Banghazi, enough reason to bomb them, as I doubt they'll pull back now.

4pm GMT Sat - Unusual for them but the French have removed the white plimsolls and are getting in there :-

French military jets are preventing forces loyal to Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi from attacking the rebel-held city of Benghazi, French President Nicolas Sarkozy says.

It is believed to be the first act of intervention since the UN voted on Thursday for a no-fly zone over Libya.

Western and Arab leaders have been meeting in Paris to agree a course of action to confront Col Gaddafi.

"Our air force will oppose any aggression," Mr Sarkozy said.

Hours earlier, pro-Gaddafi forces launched an assault on the Libyan rebel stronghold of Benghazi, a BBC journalist witnessed.

However, the Libyan government has denied it is attacking.
