Having displayed an incredible lack of judgement, at the least, he should not even have waited to find out if he would be sacked but should have resigned.

If this is an indication of what cabinet members can get away with, then claiming a few quid for a bird house, moat or similar (I am not including those who lied about what they were claiming for) pales into insignificance.

Recent "history" has shown that Cabinet Ministers tend not to like it when stripped of some of their powers [effectively demoted] and find their presence in mainstream government no longer tenable. Let's give it a few days and see what happens :rolleyes: ... after all, at sixty-seven, he's hardly a spring-chicken! :coolchickendance:

Arthur if he had been say a Judge and had made a comment which implied he was biased he would have gone, as too would say a police officer or even a person on a jury. We all know its the coalition jitters which has kept him there, but of course it now rubs off on Cameron, Clegg and Co.
