The aim of the marriage had been to help 32-year-old Makanjuola, a visa overstayer, to remain in the UK. He had supplied the church with a false passport containing a residency stamp in the name of Abraham Akinola.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Marti, a 28-year-old woman from Rotterdam, had arrived in the UK the previous day and was booked on a flight back to the Netherlands at 19:00 that evening - just 7 hours after the ceremony was to take place.

She claimed that she had met Makanjuola on the internet and they had fallen in love. However, it later emerged that she was in a relationship with a woman in the Netherlands.:cwm23:

Both Marti and Makanjuola have been remanded in custody, to be sentenced at a later date.:xxgrinning--00xx3:

I think deportation would be the most cost effective solution.

You are quite right about the costs - I'd like to see immediate deportation or 100% guaranteed deportation after the prison sentence. The problem is half of these germs don't get deported as it doesn't seem to be automatic after serving their time - they then get released to carry on offending or if illegals just vanish into the black economy. What I'd like to see on release morning is for them to be shackled and taken in a van straight to Heathrow. Any that kick up just get a bit of further rigorous restraint from the burly guards :D
