The hints in the word 'twit' :xxgrinning--00xx3:

If it doesn't tell me what will win the next race, or which currency is trending, it'll be little use to me.

How do you find out the info, though info mediums (is there any one there)

Many city boys and girls i know use Twiter for their updates and news.

I guess some of the extensions your like
Twave twitter managed in your wave

bidder all that ebay marlarky

and of course stocky detects stock quotes and provides real time updates.

Im sure there will be a forex one like there is a twitter feed.

Can publish your wave content into a blog

Will i bet work very well with g maps as its the same people in the design teams

See you at de Wave:D

Can see why most do. But personally i know off two good uses. As basically a news feed which people can reply to in various methods. A timeline can be kept and makes it easy to follow how basically a conversation between sometimes hundreds of people.

We use it along with many other methods for our technical support at work and know many of our rivals use it. Send out messages to Technical staff who can from their phones/pda/laptops (as they work for different companies and have different equipment) expand on the information, feedback what they found out. Due to the small amount of charcters and short urls we have found its very useful as comments are kept to the point, as all technical writing should be. But yes just a cross between email, rss and sms.

The other use im surprised no one on here has mentioned is cheap texts to and from phill.

After a bit of googleing i found that sending texts to certain gateways (a number basically which you sign up to) you can use the twitter network to send a text to a person or persons.

The wife, family and friends have found it really useful. The wife pays nothing for her twitter messages and those in phill recieve as a sms and can reply. The codes they have to use baffle me but they all seem to have picked up young and old as it saves them a fortune:xxgrinning--00xx3:

The other great point is the timeline is recorded even with payg verry useful for those applying foor spouse visas etc. Or just useful to have a record of chats with love ones:)

I can remeber my parents and grand parents thinking mobile phones and computer a waste of time and who needs. Sms was by the phone companies not thought useful why text when you can talk. But phone engineers and then customers found a use for it. Somehow i think most on here now have one of each:D

Isn't it always the way a technolgy develops and people put to use, quite often for different uses to what the inventers created if for.

True. And most of the tweets are spam. As for Google Wave it will definitely take off. Things like twitter and facebook will soon be remembered as being very basic and old fashioned. I'm really looking forward to the new wave :Hellooo:

We got quite a few things going with the Wave format, the good thing is you can run your own server far better than with twitter, facebook and the like even some of the more professional ones.

If we run the server we can have only our sleves to blame if we have an outrage rather than leaving it up to others to admin.

Its still a bit creaky and only really fun when you get a lot of people involved then its like a huge electronic scrap and doodle book. Would be a nightmare to moderate a public wave methinks:D

Thanks somebody, sent you a pm.

I can see wave working well for our business where people submit designs and have a lot of queries. If a member of staff is on hand from 9-5 it will cut out the wait customers have with email. Also we have offices in different parts of town so it would make communication more efficent between staff.

Indeed its kind of a opensource collbrative thingy still very much work in progress. Not sure if for Confidental work we would use a opensource format untill it tested in the market for a while..

Its intresting how HTML 5 both Google and Apple favour while MS doesn't it appears, what with Android and Apple also with mozilla and opera (which symbian and maemo browser work with..) it be intresting if MS go out on a limb or?

This was a bit cheeky :D

Basically if MS won't support HTML 5 well lets allow site developers to force (or at least encourage) IE to use Google's Chrome rendering engine :D

Jim

If you go to use GWave if you log in via Internet explorer you will see a screen saying either use one of these browsers chrome safari or firefox or download this plug in google chrome plugin or you can try it without and oh lordy is it slow if you try ie 7.

Google and Apple are gunning for MS and know most people are not power users they may have a smartphone and some form of netbook or laptop maybe even a PC.
But many are seeing either google with its free and opensource products (I think they were saying after Nokia symbian/mameo in a few years Android from no where is going to be the biggest OS on smartphones) or Apple if your prepared to pay a little more for a nice UI etc.

MS are stuck in the middle they cant make systems as user friendly/flawless as Apples unless they make MS brand pc's surely and if they compete with google and give the OS away. Whatever they choose they will need to rethink
what they do next.

Im also convinced to a degree Win 7 will only really break into the office market rapidly if consumers start to use it and I think google know this and why its rushing to get chrome out.

With google Chrome os I could see MS seeing a sharp reduction in its usage in the home pc/netbook market if the OS is free even if not perfect if it does youtube, wave and social media, IM and browse the interweb and lets you read and create documents. How many people use google as their homepage?

People will then be familar with XP and chrome at home but wont be intrested in learning a third UI surely? They also wont be nagging IT for that new windows...

Many say why Vista failed to enter the office market was partly due to users having such terrible experiences on home pc's so there was no nagging or asking why we not using Vista.

I agree. Had been running Vista on my home laptop for a couple of years, and really wouldn't it to replace the XP build on my work laptop which was rock solid. Been running Win 7 instead of Vista for a few months now and a totally different experience - actually got a couple of copies on order.

The company I work for with 10s of thousands of office pcs/laptops which isn't usually the quickest to change the build of the office pcs/laptops has already got Win 7 builds being trialled with the intention of rolling out Win 7 to replace XP next year.

MS from what i hear have huge teams of Migration specialists with loads of software tools to assit teams with roll outs. They are been thrown at our Network architectiture team I understand.

I think MS are hoping the second Wave of the Credit Crunch predicted by the Germans Today and many others previously doesn't come to pass otherwise if people batten down the hatchs for a year or two the market will have changed a great deal.
