Goldie Sayers, British Javelin Thrower Retires With 'A Deep Sense Of Injustice'
As we're ALL aware, retirement signals the end of a career ... perhaps holding out the prospect of new beginnings in whichever manner we might choose to spend the rest of our lives.
And for athletes, it's not really all that different ... ... save for the fact that sporting participants tend to retire much earlier due to the physical restrictions wrought by ageing muscles.
But, for Sayers - to use a Scots' expression - these past 81/2 years have proved "a sare fecht" waiting in vain for the Olympic Bronze Medal she won at the 2008 Gamesin Beijing.
Although finally promised the medal since being awarded it retrospectively, last September. she still hasn't received it ...
therefore, she's understandably aggrieved!
