I remember the cheese of my childhood,

And the bread ye cut wi' a knife,

When children all helped wi' the housework,

And the men went to work ... NOT the wife
!

When the cheese never needed a fridge,

And the bread was so crusty 'n' hot

THEN ... ... kids were seldom unhappy

And the missus content wi' her lot
!

I remember the milk frae the bottle,

And its yummy cream on the top.

When dinner came straight frae the oven,

And NO' frae a freezer in t'shop.

Aye, kids were a darn sight happier THEN

They didnae need money for kicks;

Just a game wi' their pals in t'street,

And whilies ... the Saturday flicks.

I remember the store on the corner,

Whaur a pen'worth o' sweets were sold

D'ye think I'm bein' too nostalgic?

... Or perhaps it's me gettin' old
!
