The CNI acquired locally in the UK normally has an unlimited validity as far as UK authorities are concerned, however the Philippine Authorities require a Legal Capacity for marriage from the Foreign person contracting marriage under Philippine Law and this should be presented to the British Embassy within 3 months of collecting in the UK.

The Legal Capacity for Marriage must be applied for in person, and can be collected the same day, on a 'wait while its prepared service" should take about 1 hour to call in, and then obtain the LCM.

It may be worth emailing the right Honourable Consul to confirm this, sometimes info on the Manila UK Embassy website has a habit of going out of date.

Rob is quite correct one does need to be cautious about the honarary consuls, its always best to go to Manila to obtain this document, at least you know then that you can get it ! also when you arrive to go to consular, you tend to be waived through and don't have much problem getting in, its also a good way to go to Visa's too without stating true intention of your visit.

It has been noted for a while, that some of the information on the Embassy Website is ambiguous and suspect, we would always caution anyone regarding information on the British Embassy Website, it tends to be incorrect in some areas, and not always adhered to by the staff there.

The problem with the website is that by the time it is updated, some of the rules have already changed, as this happens frequently, so it's always best to keep in contact with people in a similar situation so you get the 'real' story.

Some "foreigner lady" had the gall to answer the phone.... And sounded very helpful...

They must have got the wrong kind of staff in... I thought....

    Incredible....

Anyway, jet was told that This "whomever" will eventually e-mail me...

    Will keep you posted

I got up at 5 am, today... just to catch the British Consul in Cebu in her office.

And I bloody well did !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Guess what.............??

WE DON'T NEED TO GO TO MANILA FOR THE CNI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It can be done on the day in Cebu Consular Offices . All you need to do is phone for an
    appointment.

The phone number on the link is kosher, the e-mail addy is the old one, it hasn't been updated yet, to the annoyance of the person I spoke to.

I like it. Saves me from having to go to manila and waste time and money.

Thats good news mate, saves a lot of hassle of going to Manila. Nil points to the Embassy website for having the wrong email address, but thats no surprise.

If I had known this info 2 years ago when Elsa and I married, I would have also gone to Cebu rather than fart around with Manila taxi drivers and unhelpful Embassy staff. Jeez, I still recall how it took us 2 taxis and a police car to get us to the Embassy to get the Legal Capacity - 1 taxi driver took us to god knows where in Manila (looked like some dodgy area), the other took us to the OLD British Embassy. Luckily, a nearby police patrol kindly took us to Locsin Towers. Manila taxi drivers = scum of the earth.

    Hi,

it was the Cebu Consulate that Rhea and i went to to get our CNI sorted out and it was done very quickly.

The woman there was quite straight faced and by the end of our chat she had mellowed quite well and it will certainly save you the trip to Manila..
