Tried this for the first time today.

Can't say it was horrible or had a nasty taste or a strong taste.
Can't say it wasn't juicy or crunchy. Can't say it was slightly sweet.

It was actually all of those things but I don't fancy it much.

I could eat it again but probably wouldn't by choice.

Just something about that I felt uneasy about.

Singkamas has a very white crisp flesh which is covered by a brownish skin like a potato. The skin is peeled off just like you would with a potato.

It's eaten raw here in the Philippines as if it was a fruit.
But it's not a fruit it's a root crop.

A quick search reveals it's actually a Mexican Turnip. Probably introduced here by the Spanish.

Seems that Singkamas is a very healthy snack.
It contains vitamin C, vitamin A, and vitamin B-complex (folates, riboflavin, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid and thiamin).
Also calcium, phosphorous, folic acid, magnesium, niacin, Iron, potassium, and sodium.

At P25 per kilo it's a great way to provide our bodies with something good.

Enjoy
