Petition Seeking to Ban Balut in NYC Restaurant

The balut may be a symbol of our Filipino-ness, but one animal rights activist in New York City may not think so. According to Gabrielle Hardy, even balut has rights, and wants it off the menu of Maharlika, a popular Filipino restaurant in the city.

As part of her campaign to get balut off the menu, Hardy created an online petition, saying that it is disgusting and should not be served in a restaurant.

Personally,I agree with her.. No way could I sit and eat a meal where I could see someone gorging themselves on a duck fetus.. Its enough to put me off my Adobo.

Having [hitherto] not taken advantage of the opportunity to sample balut ... ... I suppose I'm hardly in any position to pass comment.

However, - judging by the amount of feedback (pun intended) I've read here from fellow westerners who've tried this yucky Filipino delicacy - ... that the animal rights campaigner may well be making a !

I say to them, don't eat in that restaurant if you don't want to see people eating balut. I do the same to those restaurants serving foie gras, not that I eat in fancy restaurants though.

If I knew they were busy cracking open those things in a place they serve food then trust me...I`d choose another place to eat.
Warning signs on shop front window required!

    Och.

I don't fancy ever eating balut and I'm also an animal lover but I think this character is making a mountain out of a molehill.

It's not like the Middle East where they bring live monkeys to a restaurant's table.
