Beggars
Yes, there are some people who are down on their luck and it's up to you whether you give them something or not.
But having spent the day walking around London, I could see loads of them. Dirty, 'orrible people they looked - and that's just the women. Then, of course, there are the men. Why is it they all seem to have a flea-bitten dog sleeping next to them?
I did notice too, they were outside supermarkets, ATM machines and McDonald's. I didn't give anything this time, but I always replied, "Sorry no".

Roma grubs? The West End is awash with them
-

The Roma sitting swathed in blankets huddled right next to the ATMs are waiting for their Lebanese-loops to grab someone's card or their skimming devices to collect sufficient numbers before they remove them from the front of the ATM and head off home chuckling to themselves as they clone cards while sitting in the living room watching Roma TV.
Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

To be honest, Steve, I rarely saw many beggars up in the Midlands, but down here in Bournemouth they are all over the place. Outside shops and ATMs, they all seem to have their own spots. In the Town Centres, as soon as shops shut, they move in with their bedroll, ready to settle down for the night. They seem mostly alcoholics, and not many foreigners at the moment. It's something I find difficult getting used to - be it here or abroad.

Why don't they get moved on by Police?
Especially outside ATM`s!

I haven't seen any beggars for many years apart from when we visited London a couple of years ago. In fact, the last beggars I did see was Ned & Flo pushing their pram up and down the A1 in the 60's and 70's. Does anyone else remember them? They were regularly seen walking from London to Edinburgh and back again pushing the pram with all their worldly belongings inside it

London does have its fair share of professional beggars.
They tend to hang around tourist hot spots and Mainline train stations. Dog on a bit of string and some weird begging note on a bit of old cardboard.
Southern seaside towns are full of northern beggars also.
They moved out of places like Liverpool and Manchester and decided drawing their DSS money was much better in places like Hastings and Torquay.

Then at the end of the day, they get up, walk a few streets further along and get into their parked Mecerdes.
Go home to their very expensive house - probably on an elite private estate - have a good meal with wine, feet up, watch their 48"-screen HD TV, and retire to their expensive, comfortable bed for a good night's sleep to be fresh and ready for the next day on the street.

They are all human beings.
We're supposed to feel sorry for them.

There's one that hangs around the car park at my local Morrison's. He's always around the bit where the trolleys are parked, hoping to cadge a quid from people who are returning their trolleys.
I'm sure he makes a living from it.

Begging is supposed to be against the law. It's time all our laws were enforced, apart from just those targetting the low-hanging fruit...ie...the motorist.

High Streets are full of ponces nowadays. If they're not directly begging, it's Romanians selling the Big Issue or some herbert trying to get you to sign up for a charity or a bucket at the end of the till in the supermarket
