Buying a plane ticket for someone else
Hopefully soon I will need to buy Harlene a ticket to join me in the UK....
She will be travelling alone (possibly) but I am buying the ticket for her here in the UK.
How would I go about doing this, bearing in mind she will have to pick up the ticket there, or find somewhere to print it (which I don't know how easy that will be where she lives)

Why don't you send the money over so she can buy the ticket? That's what I did for Ems

I am sure there are people who have done this and will be along soon to advise you. What dates are you looking at for Harlene to travel here?

Hi Slip,
A bit of advice here as I went through the same situation when I bought Jamie's ticket for that one way flight.
Basically they can ask for the debit/credit card at check in at Manila before they will issue the boarding pass. As you know that's not possible so a copy of the aforesaid will be fine as long as authorisation from you is given on that photocopy.
Myself, for example, do not do things that way - aka security risks - so I duly went to Manchester Airport and paid in cash for her flight no probs at all, okey dokey...

I would send her the money.
In fact for something so important, I'd go out there and then come back on the plane with her.

So easy to buy the ticket online for when you want. Everything is electronic now, so just send her the email you receive with the booking details. She doesn't have to print anything, just show the ticket email on her phone as she checks in. In fact, I don't even do that, I just give my passport these days.
I do this for my wife and children when they come to China to visit me.
Don't send the money, it is an outdated method. If you want your dreams to come true ...... first you have to wake up

Check if anyone is coming to England around the time Harlene is travelling, it will be company for her. But remember, some airlines won't let a pregnant woman fly after so many months have passed by

Don't complicate things. Just send the money.

Pay for the ticket yourself or go over and bring her back.

Send her the money and fly over and collect her.

Is she capable & knowledgeable enough to buy her ticket by herself? If so, then send the money so she can book and buy it herself. If not, then you can book the ticket online (she can print the booking details or the e-ticket) and make sure you send her an authorisation letter (complete with your signature) and a scanned copy of the debit/credit card you'd use (front and back). She can present that if in case she'd be asked by the airlines for proof.

Just an update. I left her some money on the Caxton card when I returned home. It is to cover medical costs and travel, medication etc.. I said if she has enough left, to withdraw the cash from an ATM and use that to buy the plane ticket, if not then I will top it up and she can get the cash from the ATM and purchase her own ticket.
