Lost out on a great deal

I'm planning to fly back to Philippines at the start of September. Last week Skyscanner had Singapore Airlines for £480 to Manila with the "dodgy" travel sites and £500 actually with Singapore themselves. Also only £520 to Cebu from London. I thought I'd leave it a week to see about having the time off work, and now its up to £680.

I'm kicking myself. You can still get Malaysia for about £560 so I will probably have to choose them.

Omega travel still claims £511 with Singapore but I know that is crap

    Give Travel Unravel a call.

They have always been able to beat Singapore and Cathay prices by a lot when I use them.

That's just a comparison website, I use Skyscanner which is the same but has more airlines. I can beat that price with Vietnam Airlines for £480 but they're not great times. Cathay or Singapore are my preference. China Southern are normally always the cheapest but again bad flight times and long stopovers.

It's not a comparison website. It's a travel agent. I have bought 3 plane tickets from them. All 3 plane tickets had less than 3 hours stopover.

I use Skyscanner and then call them and they beat the Skyscanner prices each time I used them.

Had this with Cathay Pacific back in January. Was £580 but by the time my holidays had been confirmed at work (week later) the price had gone upto £830

Always worth trying the same search from a different computer, there are some sceptics out there (me included) that believe that once you've searched a specific flight the IP address is stored and subsequent searches will result in a higher price

    I suspect that is correct.

We live in a world of cowboys and shysters.

Led by the fine example of MPs and Bankers.

I did read that when you search for flights using a search engine, that cookies are stored on the computer that store the search and then prices are higher.

I read that it's good practice to clear/delete cookie data after each search.

Also, using a program called Ultrasurf changes your IP address which can help.

Yes, it's true. I have tested the theory with KLM. Every time you go back to the site the price goes up. I cleared all my cookies etc then tried again - lo and behold the price showed what I first saw!

Graham you need to buy the pro version to have UK ip address. The free one doesn't have it.

    Worth it though.

Also get an app called tube mate.

It lets you download YouTube content to your android device.

    Thanks again cheekee.

I have BBC iplayer already installed on my tablet (and the ITV one) for use in the UK, but I thought maybe I could access the player when I was in the Phils, using that app.

Just cleared out the cache and cookies and never changed a thing. It was the sale of Singapore Airlines coming to an end the reason for the price hike. Anyway I've booked with Malaysia now for £540 which is still good
