You know Lastlid, where do these figures come from £77 for a family of how many? We spend about £40 per week and we eat very well indeed. Bear in mind there are only two of us and we dont drink, smoke or eat out.

i have no idea how they come to these figures, i know one of my daughters a family of 5 spends well in excess of £77 more like over £150,

Michael, you do very well to manage for 2 persons on £40, perhaps you missed out the odds and ends through the week,
i find it difficult for one person to cope on that,

also dont forget the cleaning sundries

Well im glad I ain't the only one...I was spending similar when living alone 4 years back...now with wife and 2 babies its nearer £ 130 a week and that's only at Tesco...doesn't include fortnightly shopping at out local Thai shop which averages £ 45....certainly all good fun.

We dont smoke or drink either...

I guess these are average figures for average families in an average part of the country. £77.00 sounds about right for the two of us, but then it is expensive for food here compared to the UK mainland. We don't buy ready made meals much as the wife cooks mainly, now and also we steer away from the smaller supermarkets.

Any food bought out would have to be added to these figures.

My wife, owing to her size, doesn't eat an awful lot.

    5 of you on £45 a week
we spend about £130, use to spend maybe £160 a wk for 5 of us.

i cant see how u spend £45, ok 3 pack of meat for £20, each last 1 day, so u need to spend at least £20+ on meat, what do you have for breakfast or lunch ?

i and the husband dont follow the three meal plan we normally eat our meal during dinner/supper time for breakfast i normally have coffee , same with the husband .kids can have my fresh hot bake pinoy pandesal

with there mug of hot choco aside cereal
and about the meat i try to stretch it even for up to 2 weeks..10 pound for 3 packs of mix meat..not 20
for example the loin of pork in a pack there is 4 pcs..only 2 of them we use in a week then in next day..the chicken breast for a nice sweet and sour dinner/or mix with some pasta..or rice..etc, mince beef or pork for spaghetti.. and stuff
and the main secret is i first feed them and i eat last and whatever is left specially meat...the husband enjoy it and the vegetables bit..is my dinner with some spuds or rice

£50 a week for food shopping at ASDA or Morissons plus £10-£15 from Asian shop for 2 of us. We eat 5 different fruits a day, some veg and meat that's why its a bit expensive. But its okay. We work hard to eat well.
