Which test is she doing, John?

My wife did the Hopkins TOEIC test so I don't think it is the same as the IELTS test. Sorry.

To a large extent the actual test taken depends upon where your fiancee wants to take the test.
My suggestion would be to review the UKBA approved English test listing and then decide which provider/test centre is the one she wants.
There are a number of different tests available.

IELTS is just one of a number of tests that could be taken.
Just be aware that IELTS is graded at level B1 minimum. UKBA only requires level A1, which is a lower level than B1.

Under the new rules, from October 2013 the required minimum level will be increased from level A1 to level B1, and I'm sure the UKBA approved listing will be updated a couple of time during the next 12 months so better to keep an eye on that one.

If you and your fiancee have already decided to go with IELTS route then I would suggest you buy a book that best helps to achieve IELTS Band 4.0 (level B1)
