Looks like the long suffering and ripped off British shopper is getting wise to this slippery corporate con merchant

Almost £5bn was wiped off the value of Tesco's shares after the company issued a profit warning and admitted it needed to spend "hundreds of millions" of pounds improving customers' shopping trips.

Just stop sneaking the price up on practically every item every week, stop conning us with NON-special offers, and get some people on the tills....thereby fulfilling the FALSE promise on billboards all around the store !

In other words STOP TAKING THE PISS and insulting your customers' intelligence.

They are 5 billion down because customers used their feet and bought cheaper elsewhere or recognised that Tesco had increased ALL their prices by 3 or 4 times the inflation rate, so reacted by buying less.

They need to get their fat backsides out of the board room and go and do some shopping in the real world.

Tesco’s has taken its finger off the mark. Their customer service is appalling, their staff are often rude and complain on the shop floor about their wages and each other, the fresh bakery department doesn’t appear to clean its baking trays properly as the bakery products are often dirty/ burnt underneath which suggests hygiene problems and they mess around screeching to the radio all day. The range and size of products available are getting smaller, the quality of produce is often very poor and the management team are very rarely seen on the shop floor at my local Tesco’s “superstore”. Their shopping trolleys do not work properly and the store could do with a good clean. The rate that prices are now increasing is ridiculous and unacceptable so they will undoubtedly lose further customers. Basically, strategic drift fuelled by lack of insight into what the customer wants, competition and poor management has now occurred and the ongoing bad publicity will now affect their business reputation further. In my opinion, it serves them right for being so greedy and they do not deserve a place at the forefront of the grocery business.

I prefer Sainsbury’s any day but they are also quite expensive.

They certainly have no room for complacency given the current market conditions.

Asda & Aldi are laughing all the way to the bank

Asda and Aldi enjoyed the fastest sales growth in the UK in the run-up to Christmas, according to data issued by Nielsen.

In the four weeks to 24 December, Asda saw its sales increase 10.7%, while Aldi had what Nielsen described as a "stellar growth" of sales of over 40%.

i have little sympathy for Tesco's and the other huge retailers, they have helped to kill off the high streets and small businesses. When I was a child my mum would get her veg from the greengrocer, meat from the butcher, bread from the baker, milk from the milkman ect... most of these small shops have gone under as well as local pubs due to the greed and buying power of the big supermarkets, now the money is not spread about but just goes to the big retailers :( thats why i try to shop at small shops as often as i can, often with better quality and service!

I don't get why so many people don't realise this - Tesco are frankly and simply more expensive than their competitors. I find the quality to be okish.

Asda are my current favourites, but I prefer Aldi for most things or the local market (place full of independent traders).

Showing my age (40-summat hehe) but I remember when Tesco were a downmarket shop, on about the same level as VG, Mace, the Co-op. Then in the 80's they managed to relaunch themselves.

Well carry on like this, and they'll end up downmarket again, but with big stores. One thing customers really notice is when a store starts not being bothered to clean properly.

My ex wife and I shopped at Asda for 20 + years. She always said that Tesco were more expensive. And she was right. And whenever I am on the UK mainland I load up my car at Asda before I get the ferry back to the IOM. As there is no Asda here so no choice. In fact the best place here is Tesco, ironically......as it is better than the local supermarket chain.

Freezer stores like Iceland & Farmfoods are the cheapest for a lot of branded stuff. They might not have the wider selection of the big supermarkets but it's definitely worth popping in. I only use supermarkets like Asda or Morrisons and very rarely Tesco to get stuff I can't get cheaper anywhere else.

Don't forget clubcard!.. It so makes shopping there worthwhile, haha! well maybe not ;-)
We have a 24 hour large Tesco store, as I work nights.. I thought great, how convenient, but in reality when you get there at 4am half the store is closed off and the half 'open' is like an assault course, most shelves are inaccesible due to the empty boxes strewn all over the aisles, no staff at the tills - just the automated one. No staff to assist except the 2 or 3 that are replenishing the shelves and look at you as if you're an intruder if you ask for anything. So all in all the 24 hours is just another marketing con, just the same staff stacking shelves before it was 24 hours.

Popped in local Tesco Metro yesterday whilst in town not buying anything just to see what if any special offers were around.

The Manager and two staff were on their knees with cloths and buckets of soapy water wiping down the shelve edges. Did I happen to read comments amongst the recent scathing reports that the stores were dirty ?

I was in there yesterday evening doing my normal shop.

The place was deserted, loads of staff on the tills, most prices had had their usual weekly increase, even more lines no longer stocked.

I spent even longer than usual picking over the 'reduced' stock (not much, and mostly pretentious rubbish like muesli soup with Mongolian Haricot beans etc).

Of course I always go on a Saturday evening when there is some popular rubbish on the TV.

If Farmfoods (closer) had a cashpoint and opened a bit later I'd go there. They are both within walking distance, but unfortunately Aldi and Asda are at the other side of town.

I always shopped at Waitrose prior to the Tesco’s superstore opening. What lured me more than anything to Tesco’s was the late opening times and the location which is easy to get to but I completely agree with the rest of the comments that have been posted . No doubt their boardroom will be very busy at the moment and like M&S, they will call in specialist consultants to help them with their strategic direction but in my opinion, they have left it too late.

We don’t have an Asda or an Aldi nearby and I never bother with frozen food outlets as I prefer fresh produce but there is a new village shop that has recently opened which is a hive of activity and is fast becoming the centre of the village community. They are open very long hours, nothing is too much trouble, personal service is assured, there is choice and they regularly have special discount offers on their products. What’s more, they also have a sub-post office and a cash point. I have already started going there more and will continue to do so.

I'd like to see more of these local shops coming back to put the spirit back into the community but I guess the the big buzz word is COMPETITION

A problem with the Isle of Man has been that it has been full of local shops. Whilst I am not a Tesco fan, it has at least brought diversity of range and price competition to the island.

That's the beauty of the competitive market upon which these giants supposedly thrive, having meanwhile crushed all the little 'local' shops underfoot in their rush to the top of course.

Gave up on Tesco about a year ago. Done my weekly shop in ASDA once and there was such a notable difference in the price that I go there every week now.

im surrounded by tescos, they have a monopoly it seems, oh how i wish there was an ASDA nearby but sadly their planning application was rejected by the local council so i have to put up with 3 tescos superstores all with a 5 mile radius so something wrong there.
