Tourist visa
A UK visit visa allows a person to travel and stay in the UK for up to six months. It also covers people coming to the UK for business trips or medical treatment and those passing through the UK.
while
Student visa
Applying for a UK student visa allows a person to come to the United Kingdom to embark upon a course of study in excess of six months duration.
The study visa immigration service entails the grant of a UK study permit enabling visa nationals to study in the UK with a view to gaining a recognized qualification.
Hope this helps.
Now my question; who will be the sponsor of your partner? You or her brother? Not an expert, I only try to help.

She can apply for a Family Visit visa which in general are more successful (and I think you can appeal if refuse).
But what people have had problems with is not mentioning that they are in a relationship with a British resident when applying for a Family visit visa. The problems usually occur when they apply for a fiancee/spouse visa and they state that they were in a relationship prior to their visit to the UK. Obviously she could mention her relationship with you when applying for a family visit visa to get around this problem.
If she comes here on a visit visa (Tourist/Family) she will have to leave before it expires, there is no was she can extend it beyond the 6 months. Obviously to then return to live here you will have to get married either before she come to the UK or within 6 months of her arriving here.

This is a catch 22 as they can then use that information to refuse a family visit visa, as the main intention is not to visit family. If you don't tell them it will cause problems with other visa's in the the future as we have seen on here many times.
What you are supposed to do is go and see her!
If you like each other, you then have the proof you have made an effort in the relationship, and apply for a Fiancee visa and get married here, or do it in the Phil and get a spouse visa.
DO NOT try and work the system, it WILL cause problems further down the line.Keith Driscoll - Administrator
