No sex before marriage??
Hello gang!
I have got a new ladyfriend in mindano, we have been getting along great and decided yesterday that we would concerntrate on each other and not chat to others, as she was very concerned that she was one of many.
I told her i could possibly visit her around Christmas time if things continue to go well, then she told me that if i visit her there will be no sex before marriage. She tells me shes stil a virgin and only ever had 1 other boyfrind in her life.
Although i admire her ideals, i feel a bit dissapointed. I have been reading that a cleaver person will get to know his future wife, very very well, before marriage is decided, even making multiple trips over there.
Is this the norm???

Pretty much the norm, yeah. From what I have read at least, but there is no golden rule and the society of the Philippines is changing a lot. But, men who go to the Philippines for sex usually end up in a girlie bar, those who travel for a relationship will need to deal with the whole Virginity thing.
After all, would you (knowingly) marry a bar girl from Angeles City?

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

Yes, it's the norm, although there are a few exceptions, it all depends on the girl really."10% of life is made up of what happens to you, 90% is decided by how you react"

One of the main cultural differences. The Philippines are still very religious, while those of us in the UK are used to a different slapper every Friday night

Exactly why I'm curious. I've lived in HK and a few friends I made were with previous show girls and bar girls. Their relationships are okay. They made decent wives and mothers to their kids.
I've been to Angeles City a few times. Sat on one of the bars there to chat with a few people and some girls. They're not even locals of Angeles...the ones I talked to spoke in Visayan. I don't underestimate bar girls...they have tough jobs."The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page."

My previous post was not really a damning judgment on bar girls, but rather an extreme example of the opposite to a virgin.
I think any woman in the Philippines who sells sex for the sake of her children should be looked at with either a sense of pity or a sense of pride. Pity for the fact she has little choice but to sell her body but pride for the fact she is out there trying to feed hungry mouths. However, there are also a lot of bar girls who are notorious for scams and various things. So it would be doubtful that a western man would knowingly marry a bar girl as the trust issue would be a potential killer for that relationship
Whilst virginity is something I personally do not worry about, it can be a cause of pride to many. I have spoken to Muslim men who would not even think of marrying a woman who was not a virgin, yet they are not virgins themselves And so I would think the situation is similar in the Philippines! When I go to see Rizza I willl have no such expectations, wether or not sexual relations take place or not is really of little concern to me. Within a relationship, those things happen in time and it is important not to rush things
Jakeob, relax and take it easy with this girl. Don't worry too much about the sex thing. It will happen in time if it is meant to

i never made it to Angeles City, maybe one day
I'm joking about the bar girls, but what shocked me more was how women were used and abused by the Filipino local men
from a program i watched on the sex trade in the phils - called 'Hope in Heaven'
